Sorry if I was just repeating myself, but I… just don’t really know what else to do, at this point? I have my own lines drawn, things like “Make D.C. into five states” I think is undemocratic and abusing the system. I do understand what you’re saying and what you’re worried about down the road, I have the same concerns. It’s just that I also feel like if we sit idle and don’t use the legitimate tools that we DO have to safeguard democracy, we’re not going to have it anymore.

Again, I understand your POV and I acknowledge the concerns you express. I share them. I guess they’re just outweighed by other concerns right now. This country is on a downward slide and I wish I had a crystal ball to know how best to stop it.

What people have to theorize is how best to counter bad actors using democratic norms to undermine democracy itself. The western world hasn’t faced this kind of problem since WW2, and to some extent, since Rome.

But from history that I can recall there actually haven’t been examples of anti-democratic forces successfully being defeated by democratic systems - because to defeat them requires operating outside the democratic system. So people need to think hard about how to actually survive this coming crisis, because it is a serious theoretical issue. There might be a hypothesis that salvaging norms are the long term solution, for ex. But it’s worth pointing out that as far as I can recall there hasn’t been a democratic solution to undemocratic undermining of democracy from within in history. So put your thinking caps on. (This is arguably why a constitutional monarchy is more stable than a pure democracy, on paper anyway).

Ironically a non democratic system could solve this tomorrow. Tossing the entire Murdock family out of a plane and close all FOX owned media station solves 50% of the problem with a single stroke.

I’m debating whether we should start a rumor that Trump had her poisoned by the Russians, with the assumption that nobody would notice since she had pancreatic cancer already.

Yeah, but think of the horrific environmental damage we’d suffer from the sheer number of flights we’d need to toss the 60+ million Trump voters for the second 50%.

Fixed your post.

So here’s Trump’s supposed short list.

These women might be terrible garbage people, but they’re not the level of garbage that I expected.

Who knows, maybe Trump will nominate Ivanka and totally live up to our expectations.

Trump doesn’t know anything about this sort of thing - this was a list made up by his handlers a long time ago. If it were Trump picking he’d choose just the last people he’d recalled seeing on FOX.

That list can’t be complete. I don’t see Ted Cruz in drag.

Cruz doesnt want a lifetime appointment. He still plans to be president one day.

I got you fam

Cruz also knows being on the SCOTUS is work, and he’d rather spend his time doing nothing in general other than shitting his pants on twitter. That job description fits his current senate seat as well as being a Trumpian president.

Is there evidence that any of those Senators named by Trump are interested in a SCOTUS seat?

Lindsey making it clear what exactly he is.

Joe Manchin weighs in.

It’s nice to have this compiled for Cockroach Herodotus’s convenience:

Choice quote:

On Fox News, contributor Tammy Bruce even said that she believed that a quick confirmation of a Trump-appointed replacement would be the best way to honor RBG, even though the justice’s last public statement from her deathbed was literally this: “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Who are you going to believe about what the best way to honor RBG is? That lying, democrat bitch of a Supreme Court justice, or me?

I am extremely saddened that we do not actually hold feet to fire anymore. I’d pay to watch that.

I mean there’s a clear solution to America’s growing systemic woes, and it’s not at the ballot box.

It’s traps
