We already knew this. It came up in his confirmation hearings, right?
I think when Trump’s crew was vetting candidates for all the open positions, they grouped them into piles by whether or not they had contact with Russians, but then when time came to make a decision they threw away the wrong pile. I guess maybe.
Not quite. We already knew that he failed to tell his confirmation hearing about the meetings with the Russians. We didn’t know he’d failed to tell the FBI.
In particular, this means his security clearance could in theory be revoked (and I would guess that that Sessions made a deal to recuse himself from the Russian investigation in exchange for not getting his clearance revoked.)
Of course, committing perjury in front of Congress ought to be a bigger deal, but it’s not like this Congress is going to do anything about it.
Well how about that. Maybe we can at least get someone better to lead the Justice Department.
It’s funny because this is where we’re at. We’re confused about which issue in Trump’s administration is new or a repeat.
I was under the impression (feel like I read this somewhere) that lying on those forms is a huge deal. Why would they let him keep his clearance (better yet, who decides?)
I’d be willing to bet there was already a deal along the lines of, “Recuse yourself from the Russia investigation or we go after you on the security clearance.”
But he hasn’t recused himself as far as I’m concerned. Playing a role in firing Comey pretty much nixes that.
… So I’m just catching up. Apparently the guy Greg Gianforte, the GOP candidate in the Montana special election who just bodyslammed a Guardian reporter for asking about health care? It seems he … well, just guess.
Admittedly this is just investments in large funds indexed to the Russian economy, and it’s “only” $250,000 which, while it would be huge for most pols, is chicken feed considering this guy is one of the founders of Oracle. But still, is there any GOP politician these days who doesn’t have a financial stake in Russia?
Oh, and the reporter who wrote the article linked above? Same guy Gianforte bodyslammed.

The hacking spree that upended the presidential election wasn’t limited to Democratic National Committee memos and Clinton-aide emails posted on websites. The hacker also privately sent Democratic voter-turnout analyses to a Republican political operative in Florida named Aaron Nevins.
Learning that hacker “Guccifer 2.0” had tapped into a Democratic committee that helps House candidates, Mr. Nevins wrote to the hacker to say: “Feel free to send any Florida based information.”
Ten days later, Mr. Nevins received 2.5 gigabytes of Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee documents, some of which he posted on a blog called HelloFLA.com that he ran using a pseudonym.
Soon after, the hacker sent a link to the blog article to Roger Stone, a longtime informal adviser to then-candidate Donald Trump, along with Mr. Nevins’ analysis of the hacked data.
More evidence that the GOP values party over country.

The GOP values seems to be “Why I have to pay for a road that I don’t plan to use”. So you get this mother that vote GOP and she say “why my taxes must pay healthcare for other people”. And then you have a group of male GOP senators saying “why I we have to pay for breast cancer machines?”.
They don’t fucking get what is a civilization. Anarchist have a more solid idea of civilization than the GOP. I don’t think they would see a person dying and do nothing (they are still human beings), but the effect of the policies they want have that effect.

I had this exact argument with some family members. Why should they have to pay for these illegal kids to go to school?? ’ they ask.

In addition to possible coordination between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign to influence the 2016 presidential election, investigators are also looking broadly into possible financial crimes — but the people familiar with the matter, who were not authorized to speak publicly, did not specify who or what was being examined.
