TheHill: Senate Intel heads get broad subpoena power in Russia probe

The leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee now have broad authority to issue subpoenas in the Russia investigation without a full committee vote, Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said Thursday.

The panel voted unanimously to give Burr and Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.) the blanket authority for the duration of the investigation into Russia’s election meddling and possible collusion with President Trump’s campaign.

The two Senate leaders must be in agreement in order to issue an order.

The committee recently issued its second round of subpoenas in the investigation to businesses associated with former national security adviser Michael Flynn, whom Trump forced to resign in February.

The panel has also requested information from other former Trump associates — Carter Page, Paul Manafort and Roger — but has not issued subpoenas.

Manafort recently turned over hundreds of pages of documents to the committee voluntarily.

This whole thing is more confusing than a Le Carre novel and funnier than a bedroom farce. Is Mensch playing the IC or is the IC playing Mensch? (“I don’t know what to do, Milo. I keep putting out the most absurd stories … but then they turn out to be true!”)

Um, doesn’t Mensch confirm she is a right wing troll with everything she does? I mean, she was a right wing troll even when she was an MP, why wouldn’t she be one now?

There are a certain number of people out there who are desperate to latch onto anyone who says they’re anti-Trump, even if they turn out to be trolls, or crazy, or both.

Folks need to be wary that they do not fall into the same trap that folks who hated Obama did, where they latched onto fucking lunatics simply because they fed their hunger for anti-obama messaging.

Yes, I sure don’t want the left to become the mirror image of Pizzagate idiots. I can’t roll with people like that.

^^^^ Double likes.

And look, no one saw this coming:

Official: Trump ‘looking at’ future of US sanctions on Russia

Definitely true, but listening to anything from Milo or Abramson is no different/better. I still think the goal of Russian meddling was to erode faith in our political procedures and media, which they have done. I don’t imagine they ever thought Trump would actually win.

I don’t know what to make of this, but there’s a hell of a lede buried here:

In his town hall talk, Rogers reportedly admitted that President Trump asked him to discredit the FBI and James Comey, which the admiral flatly refused to do. As Rogers explained, he informed the commander in chief, “I know you won’t like it, but I have to tell what I have seen”—a probable reference to specific intelligence establishing collusion between the Kremlin and Team Trump.

Rogers then added that such SIGINT exists, and it is damning. He stated, “There is no question that we [meaning NSA] have evidence of election involvement and questionable contacts with the Russians.”

That is from the observer?
Doesn’t Jared Kuchner own that paper?

You have to imagine that it’s pretty galling for them to run such a ridiculous scheme and have it succeed; it really reflects poorly on them too… or at least on their version of the Baby Boomers.

“Comrade, our plan worked much more effecktivly than we ever dreamed! The Amerikans have elekted Donald Trump as President! Comrade, how did these imbeciles beat us in the Kold War? How drunk WERE you back then?”

I think it’s for sale. Still, if you’re someone like Kushner I imagine you own a lot of companies you have control over, and whose staff despise you.

Oh great. Turns out Comey did exactly what the Russians wanted him to, even though he knew the information he was reacting to was Russian disinformation.

Sources close to Comey tell CNN he felt that it didn’t matter if the information was accurate, because his big fear was that if the Russians released the information publicly, there would be no way for law enforcement and intelligence officials to discredit it without burning intelligence sources and methods.

Sure, let’s break all our norms and procedures (FBI not commenting on investigations, FBI not interfering in elections) because the Russians might possibly release information we know is false. Surely if we do that this once, they won’t take advantage of that in the future!

Not anymore.

That headline is reaching pretty hard. You’d never get that past the subs at my work.

Uh oh.

Just…why??

What possible motive could Kushner have for doing this except to specifically bolster his own personal businesses?

This seems like it will be difficult to make go away.

Two Scoops day at the Post. I mean…this is not a very good Friday for Team Trump…
