I’m pretty sure all the NSA/CIA guys are pretty fine with handing the keys over to Russia. This would not at all intensify any efforts underway to subvert him, nor would they be encouraged to leak information that would implicate trump in any sort of wrongdoings either before, or during his presidency.
What world am I in right now? What the fuck is even going on?
We’re going to partner with Russia on cyber security? Christ.
It certainly seems as though he may have taken Russian mob money to survive the downturn. As to direct involvement in the election shenanigans, yes, he probably wasn’t directly involved.
We might wanna mention that the Times just dropped the biggest bomb in weeks on the current administration…
I hope someone mentions it.

Yeah the whole “we were just there to talk about adopting Russian babies” cover story wasn’t holding water. So now apparently Dems tricked the Trump campaign into agreeing to meet with a Russian lawyer so they could get dirt on Clinton. Or something.
But this was definitely not collusion.
Yep, that’s the one. This, after initially denying the meeting took place, and then denying yesterday that the impetus for the meeting was to get damaging info on Clinton.
And yeah, this news isn’t coming from leaks or anything like that. It’s coming from Don Jr his own self.
I didn’t initially think it was likely, but Putin has something on Trump, or he is a world class idiot.
Seriously, a cyber security partnership with Russia? Even if that isn’t proof that he is in their pocket, the optics are terrible. He was in my opinion winning against the Russian probe (at least in the public) and now he threw all of that away. Even the Trump party is turning on him now. All he had to do was not be a complete idiot for a little longer but nope, Trump will be Trump.
Trump Jr is a moron, so that he met with Russians to get info on Hillary doesn’t surprise me. I would not be surprised if Trump knew though.
Even setting aside familial ties, Trump Jr was part of the official campaign staff.
He and Kushner sure do appear to be in some trouble right now.

This is the part that’s crazy.
The Trump apologists are still trying to spin the yarn of “this is just annonymous sources!” and just straight up ignore that Trump Jr. has confirmed the story.
That is seriously their line right now. They are saying things like, “Well, maybe Trump Jr. confirmed it, but it STARTED as being anonymously sourced! So that means it doesn’t count!”
It’s straight up nonsense on its face, but they don’t seem to CARE that what they are saying makes absolutely zero sense.
What part of “end of story” do you guys not understand?

I’m guessing this (from the Washington Post story) is what Donald Trump Jr. thought was going to be the lede:
It’s almost certainly what they’re going to grab on to as a talking point. The allegation that the Russians were funding Clinton. “Yeah, we met with her because we were worried about the Russians hacking the election on Clinton’s behalf!”
-Tom
You know how people type “LOL” even though you know they aren’t actually laughing out loud? Well, that made me actually laugh out loud. Thank you, sir.
As for who was funding whom, I don’t think most of us would be shocked to learn that the Russians were playing both sides. After all, if they were, the winner would be compromised regardless if which side they were on.
I think you might be shocked at how wrong that is.
The only people I know of who’d consider the idea of Russia working to get Clinton elected as a plausible scenario are people are pushing a viewpoint, lacking basic knowledge about the playing field in the summer of 2016.
Clinton’s position papers and her own party platform were pro-Ukrainian, pro-Russian sanctions. As Secretary of State, she made thing really uncomfortable for the Russians, and her campaign was staffed by people who were State Department lifers who wouldn’t have considered for a second the notion of taking a campaign meeting for “dirt” on Trump with Russian-linked entities. Hell, a big knock on Clinton from the left was her hawkish nature on Russian policy.
In fact, if you read Junior’s own words, it’s clear that even HE didn’t think the Russians were really trying to help the Clinton campaign. By his own account, he thought it was nonsense.
So. The guy who is often referred to as “Fredo” in this entire sordid scenario, Donald Trump Jr, doesn’t think the Russians were interested in trying to get Clinton elected. If Fredo’s smart enough not to buy it, I’m guessing there are a fair number of others who don’t see it as a likely possibility as well.
