Is there any real threat to them here? They (the Trumps) seem to be operating under the assumption that this is nothing but a PR problem; ie, no Republican led Legislature will even attempt to pursue charges, and Trump makes everyone in the Executive branch immune (honesty the right to pardon should be taken away from the Executive at this point).

Yes. Maybe not today, and maybe not this month or next month or even until the 2018 midterms, or beyond that. A reckoning may not happen as fast as we’d like or in the fashion we see it happening now…but world history and American history are both pretty good at doling out just desserts.
I mean I guess I don’t see - and maybe they don’t see - a path forward that threatens them legally they can’t weasel out of. So what if anyone other than Trump gets convicted? Pardon. Does a state have standing to press charges against Trump in a federal election email scandal? If the federal government itself finds fault - fire the people looking into it.
The only people Trump can’t directly control are the Senators and Reps, and the Republicans show no stomach at all for attacking Trump - by and large they’re either afraid, indifferent, too dumb, or too partisan, to care about illegal activity, or so it seems.
