Apparently Papadopolous was introduced to a Russian National who was described as Putin’s niece.
Just reading over the Papadoplous plea. It is all directly related to establishing connections between the Trump campaign and Russian government reps, including the hope of getting “dirt” on Clinton, with apparent knowledge of everyone involved. Papadopolous basically lied about the timing and extent of those communications, saying they happened before he was part of the campaign.
Ah! Here’s the full Papadopolous statement:

It’s hilarious that he thinks deleting his tweets makes them go away.

It is a nice touch that they have emails of Papadopolous informing campaign members of his progress, and he is currently a cooperating witness. This should be entertaining
Unless someone else archived them, if the tweets are deleted they’re gone from Twitter’s databases.
For example, the Russia bots tweets are gone, as this article points out.

I believe that there are other sites which archive pretty much every tweet, by everyone.
So, serious question. If the line is the Trump campaign coordinated with the Russian government, or independent Russian hackers, to get the DNC emails, what’s the difference between that and the DNC contracting Fusion GPS to produce the Steele Dossier? Both parties were working with foreigners to dig up dirt on the opposition.
I thought Jared’s Twitter account was long ago nixed, plus he didn’t ever tweet much?
This is from March.
Well, whoops on my part then.
The amazing thing to me is that Papadopolous was apparently arrested on July 27 right after his trip to London and he’s been cooperating with Mueller and the FBI ever since.
And no one outside of the FBI or Mueller’s team knew.

I had thought that the Library of Congress was archiving every Tweet. Turns out they were trying to, but it was hard.

The most obvious distinction is that one is playing accomplice to a crime, hacking, and the other is researching whether a crime has been committed. Steele essentially contacted sources, who reported off-the-record what they’d heard about Trump: clearcut opposition research. Asking Russia to provide emails that they have, themselves, illegally procured, to be used as political capital in a quid pro quo deal? That’s collusion.

Can you get a jury that is likely to contain a stealth Trump supporter to convict? That’s what I am afraid of.

If the Trump camp was negotiating with the Russians to get Hillary’s or DNC emails, or to have them published in a certain way, they were essentially in a conspiracy to receive stolen goods. The underlying crime that they may have been party to after the fact was the Russian hacking. As far as we know, what Steele did to compile his dossier was not illegal under US law.
I’m sure, however, that the exact argument underlying your question will be promoted by the Republican talking heads.
