What’s up with this story? Have we discusssd this and/or is it BS or verified?

Doesn’t make much sense to me. Mueller has the goods to put everyone in prison right now… but he’s just sitting on it?

I doubt it too, but even if he does have compelling evidence, he wants to be thorough in his investigation.

He likely does have the goods on a ton of folks… and I suspect that a few folks did in fact lie to him, unaware that he had emails which would prove they lied.

But he’s gonna take his time, because that’s how he rolls.

It’s the slow knife that cuts the deepest.

Right, but if he’s got then dead to rights anyways then they should just fire him now. More time just gives him a chance to be more thorough.

He can’t fire him. Rosenstein would have to fire him… and I don’t think he will. So he’d have to fire HIM… and then you end up in a saturday night massacre thing…

At which point it’ll be difficult, if not impossible, for the Congress to keep ignoring it. And they’d just put Mueller back on the case. And it’d almost certainly seal the deal for an obstruction of justice case against Trump himself.

As it stands, it could still be the case that everyone ELSE goes down, and not Trump. And I feel like Trump would cling to that possibility until the bitter end. He will throw literally EVERYONE else under the bus if he thinks it’ll save himself.

That was actually my take. It’s a way for the tribe to continue on in the face of whatever charges may come – It was all a witch hunt by biased liberals. It gives congress some cover for not impeaching

Rosenstein said this week he has no valid reason to fire Mueller, and that he’ll ignore any Trump request for him to do so unless he’s provided with cause.

… But Trump can’t fire Rosenstein either. Only the AG could. Only Sessions can’t, because he’s recused. Meaning Trump would need to fire Sessions first (or convince him to resign, something Sessions has shown absolutely no sign of being willing to do) and then find an acting AG from inside Justice willing to fire Rosenstein (and also come up with cause as well; Rosenstein isn’t a political appointee and can’t be fired at will.)

Point being, this is a more elaborate process than Trump making a phone call. Meaning these ā€œMueller’s gonna get fired suddenly on a Saturday nightā€ stories floating around the Interwebs are mostly just paranoia until and unless we see Sessions head for the door.

(Of course Donnie might try bluffing by making a ā€œyou’re firedā€ call, to which Mueller, knowing Trump doesn’t have a legal leg to stand on, would politely tell him to fuck off. Given how stupid Trump is, this has probably already happened. Probably more than once.)

the slow blade penetrates the shield

And now someone needs to shop Trump’s face on Sting saying that.

I will kill you!

He may be hoping to bait Trump into issuing pardons for some, which would lift their right to take the 5th and he can then compel their testimony.

This is comforting. (Not sarcastic, seriously!)

That would be fun, if Mueller proceeded to indict one at a time, with a pause of weeks or a month or so, until no one was left but Trump. Somewhere before that point there would be so much blood in the water the GOP would have no choice but to impeach.

But honestly I doubt there’s more than one big name left. Maybe Kushner if we’re very lucky, but I’m guessing just minor figures from here on out. And sadly, probably no cabinet members, and probably not Pence either, much as I would like to see the whole disgusting lot of them in prison. But you never know. Perhaps there’s some damning evidence of Russian control in there somewhere.

I got that reference! I feel pretty good about knowing that.

Actually, he is. He was nominated by Trump and confirmed by the Senate pretty early on. Since he doesn’t have civil service protection, I believe Trump can directly fire Rosenstein, but if he did that due to Rosenstein’s refusal to fire Mueller, that would spark this crisis even before Mueller is fired.

You’re right, my bad! (I was confusing Rosenstein with Dana Boente, who was acting AG before Sessions was confirmed.)

Wow this emails thing Muller pulled is Columbo level badassery.

Mueller heads for the door, head down. Then he stops and looks over his shoulder.

ā€œOh. One more thing, Mr. President,ā€ he says grinning. ā€œAbout those emails.ā€

Yeah, I can imagine the final twist during the interview…
"So, Mr. Kushner… You’ve been so helpful. I’m really sorry to have wasted your time. I’ll be getting out of your way… Ah… one more thing. Just cause I’m curious. Did you know anything about </insert thing here>?

ā€œNo, of course not.ā€

ā€œAh… of course. Well. Thank you for your time…But… there’s just one thing that’s bothering meā€¦ā€

ā€œYa see… I’ve got all these emails you sentā€¦ā€
