For the site to be able to offer HTTPS it needs the certificate that corresponds with the host name.
It isn’t as if they are hiding the locations of the front end servers:

And if those “hackers” on twitter got into Wikileaks I’d assume they had more information than a bunch of 140 char posts talking about possibilities.
tl;dr; A lot of smoke, but I don’t see any fire.
And really; if Russia wanted to control Wikileaks, wouldn’t it make sense to run the server in the US, the UK or Australia (despite its shit internet) through a local asset. Having the server supposedly in Russia just paints a big target on it (for those with a anti-russia angle). Didn’t check where all the other sites were located, but I believe one was in Sweden - they too sniff their networks, so SÄPO might be reading those leaks as well.

So what’s the evidence for this beyond the fact that the app was made by a Russian and it uses GPS? The app’s developer is supposed to be a pilot. I couldn’t find anything about Russian intelligence tracking people using it except a suggestive buzzfeed article. But hey, it was made in Russia so it has to be malicious, those damn communists!

Yeah, Mensch is a complete lunatic. Anyone taking her seriously is a lunatic. This Russia stuff has gone from the Left’s Benghazi to the Left’s birtherism.
She may be but I don’t quite buy an equivalency between the Russia questions and Birtherism.
It has turned into some sort of fantasy silver bullet for getting rid of a hated president, a web of conspiracy theories unsupported by a single shred of solid evidence.
We know Russia hacked the DNC to help Trump, and we know Trump’s advisors (2 at least) lied about meeting with Russian representatives, which implies they had something to hide. The rest is unanswered questions, on which light may be shed, exculpatory or otherwise. I don’t put that – which is all the mainstream media has claimed, wingnuts aside – in the same box as the paranoid, racist conspiracy nonsense of Birtherism. But if it does, indeed, all come to nothing, so be it. I, and the Post and the Times, will accept that. Personally, I don’t expect Trump to be impeached, but neither do I trust the current Republican establishment to be impartial in its investigations.
