Comey confirms the investigation is ongoing…
I have been authorized by the DoJ to confirm that the FBI… is investigating the Russian government’s attempts to interfere in the 2016 election… that includes any links between the Trump campaign… this will also include an assessment of whether any crimes were committed.
I just want to mention, by random coincidence, the weekly test of the emergency broadcast system went off in my area right after he said “… to confirm”

The Trump camp needs to line up a big sacrifice ASAP. Roger Stone could be a decent fall guy. Throw Paul Manafort under the bus, too, and then make a statement that those two coordinated discussions with the Russians without knowledge of the President.
That would get Trump through this. Unless there’s a smoking gun with his fingerprints on it.
Hard to imagine any possible reason the DNC would have to be wary of Comey’s FBI.

But it wasn’t like EVERY GUY IN REAGAN’S ADMIN had tons of ties to Iran… that’s the difference.
At this point, there are like a dozen people with provable links to the Russians. It’s not believable that Trump didn’t realize all this… or, if he did, then it constitutes amazingly gross incompetence.

It’s not like any of this will actually matter. They’ll investigate this for months while Trump and company keep doing their thing. Then it’ll get buried under the hundred other horrific stories that have developed in the meantime.
Maybe (though there were plenty), but with the possible exceptions of Manafort and Page (especially Manafort), none of the alleged links are anywhere near as serious as the Iran/Contra stuff. I mean, I still find it mindboggling that anyone connected with that isn’t still ostracised. They were selling arms to a sworn enemy of the US to fund a paramilitary terror campaign, all to get around a law Congress passed expressly forbidding the US to fund said organisations. It couldn’t get much more serious without involving child slavery.
