Spicer says Manafort had a minimal role in their campaign. He was in charge of the whole thing! There was nobody higher ranking other than Trump himself.
It turns out that “Spicer says [abject, easily provable, bald-faced lie]” has become such an overused sentence construct that the AP Styleguide is considering banning it just for sheer boredom.
This is great. Trump’s tweet about the hearing is getting corrected in real time.
Excuse me: tweets.

Trump is openly lying on the POTUS account.
This could also be a daily headline for WaPo.

Video of HIC, NSA Director of Cyber Security and Comey in link.
“No, sir”.

Comey’s statement was not surprising, but it was nevertheless devastating. To hear the head of the FBI in essence call the president a liar or wide-eyed conspiratorialist is bracing, if not humiliating, for the chief executive. And reflecting on the morning tweet, Trump now seems desperate, childish and vulnerable. He’s been tripped up by his own grandiose lies. At some level he must know it.
Perhaps now Republicans can stop treating the president’s outbursts seriously. They need to call them what they are: Wild lies and accusations designed to distract from the very real investigation into Russian attempts to throw the election his way. In just a few brief lines, Comey eviscerated whatever credibility Trump still had. Whether the intelligence agency will find evidence of collusion remains to be seen. But what we do know is that Trump will not be able to lie his way through this nor distract the public.

So Trump is lying about the hearing, during the hearing, and then being corrected in real time, BY THE HEARING ITSELF.
Amazing.
What’s amazing is that no one who can do anything about it will.
Maybe I’m a pessimist but I have no faith in our government right now.
The funny thing is that the Trump administration is steering the ship of state straight into the rocks, showing that government is the failure they always claimed it was.
Yeah I guess “funny” isn’t the word I’m looking for.
Well the upside here is that, having no belief in an afterlife or soul, I’m reasonably confident that someday*, we’ll all be dead and unable to remember the events of the last five months.
* For relative values of someday that could come as early as–wait, how long would fullscale nuclear annihilation take once it started?

That reminds me I just caught up with The Last Man on Earth. The Presidency succession bit was beautiful to watch.

In reading Fox News (I torture myself sometimes, reading the propaganda news source), I believe the GOP won’t be using Manafort as their fall-guy. Fox is attempting to spin it that Manafort didn’t really do anything wrong, it’s the DNC’s fault that people think he did.
The story itself is hard to read. Complicated gymnastics to make Manafort appear to be a victim, a patriot and a great mentor to his underlings.
The way Fox News is reporting on the Comey hearing is also pretty interesting to me. They are reporting on the “where did the leaks come from?” and “The information the Dems don’t want Comey to reveal” stuff as opposed to what is actually going on in the hearings. A few winks to the actual hearings (“Comey reveals that the Trump campaign is under investigation”) but mostly spin to make it seem like a big Dem witch-hunt. It hurts my soul.
