I’m thinking of selling my AGP Geforce 6800 Ultra video card on eBay. I don’t have the original packing material since it came pre-installed on my system. How should I package it to make sure it arrives safe and sound? Someone told me I should package it in a static free bag. Is that necessary?
Yes it’s necessary, otherwise it’ll probably arrive dead.
Also, how much do you want for it?
Put it into a static-free bag, and ship it in a box full of foam peanuts.
I usually bring my components for sale over the net to Mailboxes Etc after putting it in an anti-static bag and they weigh and pack it appropriately. Far easier than packing it yourself. Just make sure to say it’s fragile.
Static-free bag FTW. My cousin borrowed one of my video cards and brought it back in a plastic bag: doesn’t work right no more. :-(
LOL plastic bags have the most static of any type of bag. You should have said “gee why didn’t you just take it out into the driveway and jump up and down on it?”
To be fair, he did wrap it in a paper towel first… X-P
Paper Towel? The friction is what causes static…
Bidding will start at $9.99.
wrap it with lots and lots of styrofoam packing peanuts in saran wrap
p.s. not really
I’m fastidious about saving boxes and stuff. GMicek makes fun of me, but fuck him. Heh. Bck on topic, I’m in the middle of eBaying my old ATI 9500 Pro and Hauppage WinTV-Go right now with the original box, packaging, everything. I think it adds perceived value to the buyer, honestly, and it’s how I get rid of all my used computer stuff that works.
But if you don’t have all that, static bag it, then put it in a tiny box or cardboard wrap (take a rectangular piece of thin cardboard, like you have on cereal boxes and shoeboxes, fold it around the piece, and tape all sides). Put this in a box of bubble wrap or peanuts and then box that in a regular brown box and ship it.
