Used to despise SJG for focusing so hard on the brain-dead, childish Munchkin, but felt better once I realized the game keeps SJG alive long enough to put out a real game every few years.
Maybe it’ll be the same with DVG.
Oh, And as Qt3’s resident cranky totally unofficial gatekeeper, welcome to the board.
Thanks to this snippet of conversation, I’m getting this from my wife at Christmas too. I really want to get back to boardgaming some so I get my eyes off of screens more. Looking forward to this.
It is really amazing, it does give the feel you are playing an opponent and not a system, by virtue of how it uses “fog of war” to generate reaction. Basically by only having enemy front line elements “active”, enemy reinforcements appear at logical places and force you to really try to attempt deep breakouts.
That, tied with a cool, dice less combat system that helps factor counting (by not being sure of what will count in each specific combat) makes for a really “operational” and not puzzly at all feel.
That’s reinforcing, thanks! I’m not sure when it will arrive (was probably ordered just a few days ago and we’re having an ice storm at the moment to further snarl up deliveries), but I have break for a week and a half now.
Well I’m having a blast with it so far, I’m playing the 2 player game single handed to learn the systems before layering on the AI. Going to pack it up and restart with a solo game very soon. It’s not a hard game to learn at all though if you’ve played any chit pull / card driven impulse system wargame before, just has it own little quirks here and there to get used to.
Good to hear you’re enjoying it. It’s been years since I’ve played a tabletop wargame, so it might be a bit of an uphill battle. Still waiting for its arrival, should be this week.
Well, my package arrived today! I opened it up to find … sports pants and a sweatshirt.
My wife apparently changed her mind and went with clothes instead of Enemy Action Ardennes. I knew I shouldn’t have mentioned, “Well, I could use some exercise pants too…” I am grateful though.
Undaunted, I’ve just placed an order on my own for the game. I will not be denied.
