Glenn Tilbrook is one of the most fascinating personas in music. Some cool things about Squeeze’s main vocalist/melody writer and arranger:

He was a childhood music prodigy. Can basically play any instrument, if given some time to plink around with it. That’s why he did all the music and arranging for Squeezesongs.

He was 16 years old when Squeeze started in 1974. Compared to everyone else who went through that band, he’s a pup.

He willingly gave over the lead vocal on “Tempted” to new keyboardist Paul Carrack. He was a fan of Carrack’s work in the latter’s own band Ace on the international hit “How Long?” and thought it was nuts that a vocal talent that huge was taking a back seat to him.

Squeeze’s first post-hiatus album, Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti sounds a gajillion times better now than it did when it first came out and got crappy reviews. It’s maybe my favorite by them. Listen to “King George Street” right now and tell me I’m wrong! Seriously, that’s one of the best songs in their entire catalog.
