Rome - a great HBO/BBC historical drama that just proved too expensive to continue. Fortunately they were able to do their best and tie up most loose historical ends by the end of the second (and final) season. Still really worth watching!
I got Rome as a gift on Blu-ray last year, but have only watched the pilot so far. I really should finish it.
Jericho - Only started watching this very recently (not even done first season yet) but it is quite good. Much better than Revolution, which I would classify in the same category.
O.o
Thats just not right.
I recommend these two too.
Blame too many space games to play. ;-)
Journeyman was an interesting twist on Quantum Leap style time travel that didn’t even get a full season. I really wanted to see where that one was going.
Nice choice Brian. I don’t know if it still holds up, but when it originally aired Space Above and Beyond was great. I wonder how much it influenced or inspired the BSG re-imagination.
It holds up quite well besides the lame mid-90s CGI. Rewatched it a few years ago. Also, the soundtrack is now on sale at LaLaLand Records. Awesome stuff.
Arrested Development
Firefly
Pushing Daisies
Profit
Journeyman
Sym-Bionic Titan
The Critic
The Flash
The Tick (both cartoon and live action)
Justice League Unlimited (You can skip the first season, when it was just Justice League)
Wonderfalls
Near death:
Cougar Town (although it’s been picked up by TBS)
Community (Seriously, NBC? You used to be cool.)
Are you on crack?
Watch it. The first season is fantastic.
Pushing Daisies: First season virtually aborted by writers strike and it lost all momentum (seven episodes) and lasted about 13 more episodes for it second. This series defines “quirky” and “idiosynchratic” - a “forensic fairy tale” that had a great supporting case in Chi McBride, Kristen Chenowith and Harry Potter audio book reader, Jim Dale, as the narrator (story teller). All three were fantastic. The stories were funny, wistful, whimsical, with an odd streak of brutal honesty (not to mention the violent yet comical murders).
The PJs: Eddie Murphy meets Will Vinton stop-motion animation in the projects. Hilarious.
Frequently, yes, but admit it, once it became JLU, it went to a completely different level. Heck, they even managed to make the Wonder Twins, Apache Chief, Samurai and the rest of the “Ultimen” not only cool, but sympathetic, which is no easy task. To my mind, it’s something akin to cooking a 5 course meal made entirely out of leftover pizza and still walking away with a couple Michelin stars.
Besides, Task Force X? Most awesome episode ever.

My friend introduced me to Party Down after it was cancelled on Starz but while it was available on Netflix Instant Streaming. Now it’s unavailable for both. That was a hilarious low budget show about a group of caterers that wanted to be anything else than caterers. Comedy-wise, it felt like a mix of Reno 911!, Children’s Hospital, and Arrested Development. It had two short seasons before Starz cancelled it. High points include, but are not limited to, Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr, Jane Lynch, Adam Scott, Ken Marino, and The Gute.
Rumors about a possible movie have wafted about the internet.
Action was a comedy about an asshole movie producer trying to make a generic action movie and running into all kinds of bizarre roadblocks along the way. I picked up the DVD a few years ago and it still held up.
Also I don’t think anyone mentioned Carnivale.
Andy Richter Controls the Universe.
Never understood the love of this. I only saw one episode, though.
I remember laughing a lot at the episode where he has the white supremacist girlfriend.
Super duper yes.
Also, The Good Guys was amazing.
