Sigh. So as fun as it is to mod the game to heck and back, the biggest limiting factor to doing it is the Nexus itself. I can’t really complain as I’m not a premium user, but holy cow is that site slammed/under-provisioned. It times-out as often as it allows a file to be downloaded.

Pro-tip: Never deleted a downloaded mod. It saves wear and tear on the Nexus itself, and some mods disappear over time (due to mod author drama, typically).

That’s good advice, Daagar. I myself just upgraded to premium for 12 months because I not only have Skyrim, but Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion etc and I’ve downloaded a good bit of stuff over the years.

BTW, I posted in the comments of the UFO Ultimate Follower Overhaul mod, and the author of the mod himself says that the following worked for him wrt Lydia–sounds like a chore, but I suppose worth trying: “You can try: Dimiss all followers, save, disable ufo, load, wait 24 h, save, enable ufo, find lydia. If it helps it helps, if not… sry”

Has anyone tried the ScenicCarriages mod? It makes the carriages behave like the cabs in GTA IV, so you can check out the scenery along the way (although I don’t know if followers get in the carriage with you or what).

<BenSteinVoice>Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?</BenSteinVoice>

Anyway, in more mod-related news re: UFO and follower horses specifically:

By way of background, basically the mod lets you buy certain equipment that you can put in the inventory of horses that the mod creator left standing around at convenient locations, that will make said horses follow your own horse and will keep them from heading back home when your follower dismounts them. Technically you don’t buy the horses just the gear.

Well, I was up in the frozen north at the site of a shipwreck with two followers and all our horses, and we all dismounted. I told one follower to wait and the other one and I went into the hold of the ship. Once we came back out, the follower was still waiting, but the horses were all gone. I looked around and did see one of them (turned out to be mine) swimming in place a distance away. The other two were nowhere to be seen.

I was not pleased, as the gear is expensive. Ended up recovering the horses using console commands as detailed on the UESP wiki: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console_Commands . I first loaded up a save game with the horses present and clicked on them with the console loaded up to get their refIDs. Then I loaded up my current save and typed the console command to move my character to where one of the horses was: turns out he was chillin’ (literally) underwater near the shipwreck close to Solitude, apparently unfazed by his lack of gills. I presume the other one was nearby in a similar state. In any case, I reloaded my save and typed the console commands to bring the horses to me, and now all is good.

Moral of the story, if dismounting your horses near water (especially on very small islands), be aware that they might end up in the drink. My own horse was swimming in place and I had already found him visually…I wonder if that’s because he’s officially supported or because the other ones had stuff in their inventory that weighed them down. ;-)

As I understand, the Scenic Carriages mod has some compatibility issues with other mods I’ve got running. FWIW, I was a little caught in deciding between them because I thought it would be a cool way to travel.

I hear that there’s something called Better Fast Travel but I don’t know whether it offers the same functionality.

I originally tried UFO, but really didn’t like it, especially because it really cluttered the dialog tree for the follower. I ended up settling on Extensible Follower Framework instead, which just seemed a lot cleaner to me. That said I don’t use it for multiple followers, I simply wanted something that fixed followers (most were broken, didn’t level up correctly etc.), and this mod has the nice benefit of giving you a simple menu system to interact with the follower.

I am considering starting up an Argonian pure mage character, and was wondering if anyone has found a decent mod for adding more robes to the game? There are great mods out there for armor, with immersive armors etc, but I haven’t had much luck finding robes.

Arkon262, I would check the Skyrim Mod Sanctuary podcasts–the nice thing is the guy who does them lists the mods in the description and always provides Nexus links to them.

BTW, I installed Real Colors Real Nights but the skybox on a sunny day is a disgrace–seams up the wazoo. I’m pretty sure I installed it per the instructions.

Also, re the Ultimate Follower Overhaul mod, I can’t for the life of me get follower horses to fast-travel properly (or at all). Anyone know what the secret is there?

Odd I don’t see any seams when I use it. I’ll check again when I play. I was so amazed at how good it looked that I was just walking around staring at things.

Ya no seams for me. Maybe it’s conflicting with something else?

I suppose it’s possible–I did install it manually (is it possible/more advisable to install with NMM)?

BTW, did you look for the seams in a big open area like outside of Whiterun?

NMM (or a better tool like Mod Organizer/Wrye Bash) are certainly suggested over manual installs for most any mod.

That mod comes with it’s own installer. The plugin I think there might be two and has to be enabled. It should be at the bottom of the load order.

Well, I guess I’ll try to uninstall and use the auto-installer (although I’m 100% certain that I installed it to the letter of the instructions). In the meantime, here’s a screenshot of the morning sky in Riverwood:

The other thing I’ve noticed since installing is that sometimes it’s comically dark on a cloudy day even at noon or 1 pm gametime. I’ve got the legacy settings going on the mod.

Ya I don’t have that at all.

I’ve actually seen that problem before, and I have no idea what fixed it.

Just uninstall the mod already. It’s not worth taking hours of time troubleshooting this crap. You’re going to end up spending more time dealing with mods than playing the game.

Other than the nighttime stars, I never changed anything about the daytime sky in this game. It looks great by default, just let it go and play the game.

Hmm, I’m uninstalling the RCRN files and it looks like a few files that go with the volumetric fog options are missing from the manual install, namely:

manny_cloudtile.dds (located in “Data/textures/effects” folder) **if volumetric fog is used
RCRN_VolumetricFog_v20.pex (located in “Data/scripts” folder) **if volumetric fog is used
RCRN_VolumetricFog_v20.psc (located in “Data/scripts/source” folder) **if volumetric fog is used

ya well just use the installer. Don’t see why you would want to make it harder. :) I actually am just starting to really play the game. As soon as I got everything setup my video card fan died. Had to wait a week for a replacement one to come. DOH

FYI looks like the DLC is coming on the 5th. Woot!

Yeah, I uninstalled RCRN as I mentioned, went back to savegames that had the problem and voilà no more sky seams. Reinstalled with the autoinstaller and they’re back. I guess I’ll try Climates of Tamriel or something. Mainly I’d just like to make nights a bit darker. I was pretty happy with Pogo’s subtle settings for Skyrim Enhanced Shaders, but felt that nights needed darkening somewhat.

Climates of Tamriel has a darker nights and dungeons option. I wouldn’t attempt to alter the Enhanced Shaders setting, it’s very easy to throw the whole balance off kilter.
