She does give you money and will cook for you.

Yeah, Mjoll is fantastic. My cloth wearing mage was having a rough go of it until Mjoll came into the picture. I actually changed my roleplaying template for this character because of it. I had intended for this mage to go dark side, but Mjoll is so infectiously good, I just couldn’t do it. Still, she does have daddy issues and that puppy dog follower of hers almost drove my mage into the Dark Brotherhood.

Just wanted to share a particularly fun spectacle:

possibly spoilerific
I was going to retrieve a follower from the College and was on the walkway to get there (the game glitches with my horse if I quick-travel straight to the college, so I was coming from the town), when I hear the typical roar of a dragon and see the shadow pass over me.

I said to myself, “Oh, crap - I’m alone, there’s no terrain to use to my advantage, and I have no chance of getting the bones if I kill it in the air because it will fall waaaaay down to the see.”
I summoned a storm atronach which dutifully started annoying the beast with lightning bolts whenever it got within range. I fired a couple myself, but destruction magic isn’t my thing and I could have almost sworn I saw the dragon laugh at me. Instead of continuing that futility, I summoned my bound bow and started firing away. I was not the most skilled of archers, but at least this might give me a fighting chance should my foe ever stay still long enough for me to get decent aim.

After a strafing run which resulted in a few near misses from my bow, the dragon found a perch right on top of one of the towers of the college as it belched its icy death in my direction. I released an arrow and noticed a significant amount of health came off. I was startled, but instantly drew back the bowstring to fire again and then saw the dragon was suddenly paying me no heed. Countless fireballs and various other spells were shooting though the air in rapid succession from all around.

A grin on my face, I let loose another arrow. I have no idea if that was the blow that felled the dragon as it almost immediately slumped on the tower, never to lift its wings again. But perhaps its death was not in vain - maybe the dragon’s spirit would somehow be able to reach out to its kin and pass along a piece of valuable advice to all of dragon-kind: never, ever … be stupid enough to attack the College ;)
The College seems to have some dragonnip, I’ve(we’ve) killed two in the yard, and I’m only level 17.

Ehm, is it just me or is this thread slowly turning into the “Skyrim. Chockfull of spoilers!” thread? It’s not chockfull yet, but I’ve read several things that should be in the other thread, IMHO…

stuff about followers
That’s the other reason I couldn’t marry her; if we’re out adventuring together, he stays in Riften. When we go home to Whiterun, he isn’t there. Though my house in Whiterun is getting full… wife, follower, housecarl and me.
I do apologize - I figured the info contained in my post wasn’t exactly spoilery. I’ll remove it if you think it’s called for.

Dan, no worries, my concerns weren’t about your post. More about the earlier posts about the companions quests. The information provided is, in itself, extremely helpfull, just a bit too many details in my opinion.

Then again, like I said, it might just be me. I might very well be overreacting, I just hate to have the fun spoiled, so I am a bit tense about these things.

Some chat about available followers, perhaps spoilery…

I had to ditch Mjoll because she wouldn’t… STOP… TALKING… Stop telling me about your goddamn aspirations! I know already! I found Jordis perhaps my follower of choice, largely because she mostly keeps her mouth shut. Although when I walk into my house in Solitude, she tends to ask what the hell I’m doing there - maybe in her game I’m the follower.

I’ve got the executioner from Solitude now and he’s been my favorite so far. A big 2 handed tank to offset my archery and he keeps his damn mouth shut. The last mage guy would not shut the hell up.

Man, I would pay ANOTHER $60 for a follower AI that would (clearly playing a ranged mage w/ tanky pal):

 • NEVER stand in a doorway. At least, quickly realize I want them to move when I push into them (w/o me having to spend 10 seconds asking them to move somewhere).

 • Stop trying to always place themselves directly between me and the mob. I’m okay with needing to be mindful of where they are, but every time (or so it seems) I move left/right to get a clean shot they just move with me like they WANT to get blown up.

 • Let me heal them from 1 HP to more than 10%. As soon as I hit them with Healing Hands (didn’t have Heal Other yet) from 1 HP, they’re like “YEAH!” and charge off. And then promptly get beat down to 1 HP again.

Hey come on guys, cool it with the spoilers on where to get followers. I’ve encountered Lydia so far, but as far as I know in my playthrough, there have been no other people in the game that are willing to follow you. Until I know otherwise, I’d liked to have been surprised.

That leads me to a follower related spoiler free question though:

Runes. How do you get past them? Whenever I’ve encountered Runes in dungeons, they’re one hit kills on my character. And they’re usually placed in a narrow space where you can’t avoid them. My solution to this has been to order Lydia forward. She takes the damage and survives the Rune, whereas I get blown up every time if I try to activate the rune myself.

Is there any other solution to Runes in dungeons? Any other way to activate them from afar or to get past them if you don’t have Lydia?

Yup. Toss a ranged spell at a Rune to get it to trigger.

Oh! Very cool. I tried firing arrows at it, but never thought about a spell. Thanks!

Egads. I didn’t realize that “available followers” would be a spoiler. I will spoilerify…

I’ve really appreciated the info on followers, a lot of them are pretty hard to find without a tip. Some of the ones mentioned here I’ve talked to several times and had no idea they were potential followers.

When they are standing in a doorway you can sprint toward them and shove them out of the way. They get all indignant about it which makes it that much more ridiculous.

I talk to pretty much everyone I see (my roommate was watching me play this weekend, astounded at all the quest markers I have everywhere) so I haven’t had much trouble with finding followers. The irony is, I really just want one good one, someone like Fawkes. And I did. So I’m happy. :)

That puppy dog follower learned how unforgiving life in Skryim can be if you irritate the wrong person. If ya know what I mean (but don’t tell Mjoll, she thinks he just went on an extended vacation.)

I would just like to be able to buy my follower a horse, or maybe that’s possible and I haven’t found out how to do it yet? But yeah, having Lydia follow me around on foot seems a wee bit cruel and she often arrives directly after I’ve finished dispensing with whatever local wildlife decided to jump me.
