There is no “end” if you’re looking for a fade to black with credits.

Not killshot animations, but I have overkill-blasted so many bodies into the distance with incinerate or fireball and am unable to find them later that I’m okay with it.

Sure, so have I. One-shotting fools from the dark with my enchanted bow is awesome. It would be even more awesome to see the slo-mo killshots every now and then.

I’m just saying that it’s a weird omission when Fallout had ranged killshots out the wazoo. I don’t want them with that kind of frequency, but I’d love to see one every now and then.

There’s a couple of things in that video that I’d absolutely love to see released as semi-official mods in the Workshop, like they did with the Space Core companion. I understand why the stuff like the giant mudcrab and dragon mounts didn’t make it, but arrow and magic killshots? Spears? Hell yes! Go for it.

Really? Even GTA has credits roll, after which you’re back in the game. So, have I now “finished” Skyrim? Can I cross it off my list as finished? Is doing what I said I did the “ending” as it were?

There is no ending in Skyrim. Kill off the main foozle and you’re pretty much interjected back into Tamriel to do what you want…clean up old quests, explore, whatever. Nothing in game really changes other than the occasional “you killed foozle” bark. Farengar still thinks you should look up the Mage’s college, you’re still a mead-hauler for the Companions, and a nip in the air still isn’t good for crops.

If Bethesda doesn’t release that stuff, maybe it will give the modders some ideas. My hope is the texture pack and not-total-shit world leveling / perk system means the community won’t have to emphasize the giant rebalance and texture mods. We can skip to step 2 for a few gameplay/interface tweaks, then move on to new content like werebears.

The patch just went out live on 360 and PS3. The PS3 users are reporting that it does fix the issues!

The 1.4 patch for Skyrim includes many performance-enhancing updates for the PlayStation 3. A few important things to note:

  1. To ensure the fastest jump in performance after applying the patch, be sure to first create a new manual save by entering the save menu and choosing “save game.” You should then restart your PlayStation 3 before continuing to play.

  2. If you encounter strange behavior while playing immediately following application of the patch, do not be alarmed – this is a temporary effect of Skyrim scripts correcting themselves after the update. Once this process runs its course, be sure to make a new save and restart your PlayStation 3.

I’d really like to see a wider variety of enemies/creatures. I’m only level twentysomething, so maybe there are several I haven’t encountered yet, but so far this feels like one of the bigger omissions.

I’d also like to have my follower be able to ride a horse for long distance traveling.

I’m still amazed on how much game they’ve packed into ~ 6GB.

Watching that Sizzle video, I’m amazed that the Kinect shouts didn’t make the original release.

Have you checked out the “Wars in Skyrim” mod? I haven’t tried it myself, but it looks promising.

Mounted combat seemed pretty workable.

Also, I was really disappointed that you can only stay in werewolf form for an extremely limited time.

I really liked the drastically altered werewolf gameplay and the “being on the hunt” feeling in Bloodmoon.

So seeing this enhanced lycantrophy skilltree gives me hope that they will enhance this area of the game perhaps.

RPS linked this Escapist article on “the sublime” in Skyrim.

“The word we seem to have settled on is “epic.” Strictly speaking, however, “epic” defines an object in its entirety – originally derived from epic poetry. The concept of an “epic moment” is fundamentally a contradictory one. There is another term, rooted deep in literary and aesthetic theory that describes such moments far more accurately. As yet it has not entered the gaming vocabulary in any meaningful way. Now, however, the release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, has provided a unique pathway for the discussion of videogames’ relationship with “the sublime,” for Skyrim both embodies sublime theory in its design, and evokes sublime moments as a creative work.”

I actually took a fluff class on the Romantic Era my senior year in college (among 8 engineering classes) where they talked about that term. I knew where that pull quote was going to end up. I’m not sure the article does a great job describing it, and I’m not sure how useful the term will be since it’s often used in a different way. But it’s interesting because “epic moments” are my favorite part of my favorite games. However, apparently that’s a contradictory term. I’ll have to start thinking in terms of the sublime.

Not one person chose to use their week to have major NPCs notice the ends of the war/assassination of quite important people/that no, I don’t fetch mead for the companions etc?

Cute, but wouldn’t that be kind of sad if you dutifully spent your week obsessing over that instead of making a flying vampire? Let 'em live a little!

And then get right back to improving that shit, because it really is kind of silly.

I was just, after I don’t know how many hours, decapitated. Goodness. Bloody Forsworn.

Thats what you get for complaining about missing features ;-)

I finished the Companion questline. But now I’ve got a cripplingly hard decision to make. Damn it.

Quest Spoiler

On the one hand, being a werewolf has been completely worthless to me in terms of combat. My archer/desctruction specialist is worthless as a werewolf. She can’t kill a single enemy as a werewolf. Not a single one. But at the same time, I have eventually come to embrace the fact that I can’t get diseased. I love not having to worry about that when I see rats.

The latter part is what decided it for me. The tradeoff wasn’t enough to justify removing the feature.

You guys are forgetting restful sleep, which is why I went back.

I stayed as a werewolf for most of the mid game since it did save my bacon a few times. I switch back later after I had maxed out enchanting and became all uber with my dual enchanted items and being a werewolf provided really no benefit and yes the 10% is nice. And now that I’m fully human my wife Camilla still won’t sleep with me like ever (for the 15%). Is it because I sleep in full Dragon Bone armor? Seriously…along with that cozy little profit (she no longer seems to cook for me or is it because I still have 3 home cooked meals in my inventory?) I want my 15%!!! Leveling is way slow at 51, and I will never give up my steed stone.
