I created my 4th toon, an argonian conjuror/battlemage, so I know I’ve got over 100 hours. Just hope the first DlC is meatier than the stuff released for Oblivion.

Crab armor.

That’s why you want to be careful buying previously-worn armor.

Oh that’s right, I need to get back to finish Skyrim! Thank you Easter bunny!

I too would like to return to Skyrim. Has anyone made a map mod like we discussed, yet? Please, I need that mod. Otherwise it’s nigh impossible to continue. I need to cross off places I’m done with.

It was announcedthis morning that the next free title update to Skyrim is adding Kinect voice support. There’s a videoshowing it in action on the Xbox.com Skyrim page now.

You can do all kinds of stuff, like hand crap to Lydia to carry via voice, but it looks like the most useful thing will be to change what’s equipped without having to dive into the menus… “Equip sword and shield” or “equip fire spell” sorta things.

But best of all, you can now shout “FUS RO DAH!” at the screen and it will work!

Awesome. They are slowly putting in everything from that gamejam video. Now, we need spears.

Edit: I’ll go ahead and say it. This is pretty cool. I wish the PC version was getting this. I’d love to yell FUS RO DAH into my mic. I know we’ll get someone saying this is bullshit “betar wth KINECT lol” stuff, but I think it doesn’t hurt any other version and it’s a neat idea.

I want the giant mudcrab.

I like the shouts. Everything else seemed like fluff, to be honest.

The quicksave is going to be nice on the console.

Voice stuff seems like a good fit for anything that’s you’d normally say (or shout!) like talking to an ally or the whole FUS RO DA bit. Where it’s doing stuff that we tend to do with our hands, like looking over maps or switching weapons, that seems like effort they should have put into the controller part of the UI.

Also, having voice commands trigger cool stuff rather than mundane stuff will inevitably make it seem more fun. Summoning your assassin buddies in AC:Brotherhood would be another opportunity I can think of. Maybe some paragon/renegade interjections in ME would work as well…

This!

The quickload seems VERY quick in that video though. Loads on the xbox take about 20 seconds for me.

Edit: sorry the video i meant was this one:

After coming from Mass Effect 3 in which I used Kinect commands all the time, it was weird going back to Skyrim a few nights ago. I still said “Quicksave” instinctively all the time at the screen before realizing that it doesn’t do anything.

So yeah, this is great news. I especially love the sorting commands for inventory too. Did you notice how he said trade with Ally, then said sort by weight? That’s awesome. Plus the Shouts will be fun to do, especially since we’ll have access to all of them now. It was such a pain to switch them around, I usually ended up never using anything except one. Usually I play Skyrim while trying to pause the game the least amount that I can, so anything that takes me into the menus too often, like drinking potions during combat, switching weapons too often, etc, I tried to avoid doing to maintain the flow of combat. So Kinect commands will really help me do that without pausing, which is probably going to be great. (I’m still not sure because you never know what kind of things make you feel self conscious when you say them out loud, so we’ll just have to see).

It’s only a matter of time. The price is what is keeping the masses away from adopting Kinect on PC.

I can’t be alone in not wanting to talk to my TV/PC while playing a game, can I? It just sounds/looks so goofy.

You’re not alone.

I fear my daughters will use the ‘puppy eyes please daddy please?’-routine to force a Kinect on me somewhere in the next few years, and I’ll probably give in and try the sports-stuff on Kinect then. But I’ll be damned if I start using the voice commands… As much as I dislike the Skyrim menu, it’s still preferable to shouting at the tv…

I agree with the shooting comment but there’s plenty of people that already shout at their videogames even without Kinect.

Yeah, the occasional shout of profanity or something is expected. I would find actually talking to the game to be fairly annoying and embarrassing.

“ally, follow”
“ally, attack”

blech.

The voice control technology is young, and will mature over the next decade into something usable. In 10 years nothing will think about using Voicecontrols for whatever it is we are using it at that time, instead of as now, where its being made to control everything.
