I don’t fast travel much, either - always take a wagon, though in essence it’s the same thing: screen fades out and you appear at your destination. But it still does more for immersion than clicking on the map. I liked the way Morrowind handled it with the Silt Striders and the Mages Guild teleporters.
Would be nice to actually have the wagon physically travel to your destination, at least the first time you’re going there. And occasionally have instances where your wagon is stopped by bandits.
I have never taken a wagon. Where do you find these things?
Usually somewhere next to the stable that’s near the front gate of the main cities.
Huh, I always run past the stables, but I’ll give a look see next time. Can you be attacked while riding a wagon?
Nope. The screen just fades to black, the game loads, then you’re at the wagon in front of whatever stable you asked to go to.
Huh, that’s kinda no fun, but likely more immersive. I’ll give it a whirl, thanks!
It’s pretty much the way Morrowind handled it. I think Bethesda was surprised that a number of fans wanted an in-game, limited point travel system. I’m glad they added it.
Oh, it totally makes sense to add that. I just wish I’d known about it sooner, as I hate fast traveling, but I’m also impatient…
Yeesh. I’ve got over 300 hours in this game, and that’s without even touching the DLC yet. I’d hate to think of how much more that would be if I had had to take a wagon to all my journeys in real time.
I figured there would be… but I’m playing it on the 360.
So my character got married to Aela the Huntress this evening. Rowr. ;-)
It’s quite different from fast traveling in one way: you can get a wagon to any major city, whereas you can only fasttravel to places you have been to earlier. Which is exactly why I don’t ever take the wagon, but I do occasionally fast travel: not much use or fun in running the exact same route I walked (and explored!) earlier!
As for the question about single characters or more: I’m notoriously bad in playing one character. I have about a dozen, all around lvl 20, all of a slightly different variety, and none of them has even come close to finishing the main quest… But who knows, maybe this year?
Heh. With the default body, she looks like a boy. Of course so do all the other women with the default body.
Please motherfucker, she is ALL woman. ;-)
And a bit wolf, but you can’t help who you fal in love with. ;-)

I married Sylgja. She lived alone and worked at the mine 12 hours a day. I just had to take her away from that. :)
