Smartphone touchscreen responsiveness

I love this story, because it’s one of those things that drives me nuts when using touch devices, and this publicity is going to cause Google to start paying more attention to it. Hopefully we’ll see an Operation Butter-esque effort in the coming months.

As an aside, this article keeps mentioning tap keyboards, but SwiftKey deserves an honorable mention, for allowing devices to overcome the touch handicap and provide a much better overall typing experience than even the best tap keyboards can pull off.

But woe upon the man who tries to actually type something–say a URL–in an active “search” field–say, a URL bar in Chrome–using Swiftkey; at that point, it becomes more unresponsive than the shitty work laptop I’m currently burning out the fans on.
