So AT&T flat out lied in court (Time Warner merger results)

AT&T did not promise lower prices. They said vertical integration would allow them to lower prices, they didn’t actually say they’d do that.

It’s very common to add conditions to these sorts of agreements. For example, Verizon agreed not to lock SIM cards when they acquired a bandwidth block, and Comcast made a commitment to network neutrality when they purchased NBC. These parties are forced to follow along by the terms of the agreement. That’s very different than saying “we could do X if we wanted to”.

Note, Verizon recently broke the agreement and is locking SIM cards because they know the FCC will let them get away with it. And the Comcast agreement expired.

Sounds more like corporate collusion and price fixing to me.

I gotta try this with the kids! :)
“Me not giving you any birthday presents will allow me to buy you a ton of Christmas gifts!”
Christmas comes around with no gifts
“I said it would just allow me to, I didnt say I would, suckers!”
:)

I’m stunned to discover that a corporate entity would fail to pass along savings to consumers instead of profit-taking. Land sakes, what’s this world coming to?

Not if the courts say it’s not. Neener. /s
