The whole gutting of the EPA and other federal agencies and rollback of legislation related to them is the Republican plan to “stop government intervention in your personal life and get rid of crippling regulation on business because then we’re all free to live good lives and make money”, which is the ridiculous bill of goods they’ve sold their voters for years. The idea is to push all this legislation and responsibility down to the State level, thereby cutting the Federal budget and shrinking Federal government (hallmarks of Republican ideology), except very few states have the budget or the expertise to handle it, so in reality the legislation and the regulation will simply disappear.

In the end, the lead paint stuff, like the education cuts, environmental rollbacks and so many other small pieces of the puzzle, end up being a giant Fuck You to the more rural and poor states like Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, Nebraska, Wyoming, etc. (because they’ll never have the tax base and budget to implement these programs at the State level, that’s why they’re Federal programs today), which ironically are usually states that vote Republican, leading us back around to people that vote directly against their own interests. In this case, Trump supporters in poor/rural states essentially voted to poison their own kids. #MAGA!
