I mean, he is an asshole and an idiot. And it’s true that he always has been. However, i’m pretty sure that he’s ALSO suffering from some sort of degenerative cognitive problem.
As an example, you can read articles like this:

Last night MSNBC was running some filler shows and Hardball was pretty interesting in this regard. Chris Matthews ran interviews he had with Trump over the last couple of decades and Trump was clearly more articulate and seemed to understand issues. I think the first interview was 1998. Not that I would be happy with any era Trump but it’s clear he has not aged well.
Or he realized that he could get away with anything, so why make an effort.
All fair points. I still think diagnosing him with dementia is a cop out. I’ve seen dementia, from the early stages on to the end. It doesn’t turn you into an evil fuck. Trump is just an asshole.

I don’t think anyone suggested otherwise. As I said earlier, they’re not mutually exclusive. You can be an evil fuck and an asshole and be suffering from mental issues.
Trump used to be a well spoken asshole. Now he’s more of a colossal dumbass.
Just a few days ago, the guy didn’t realize that the large black car sitting at the bottom of the stairs from his plane was his ride…that’s some odd confusion for a guy who routinely gets picked up from private jets.
… And earlier this year he wandered off from a signing ceremony without actually signing the document the ceremony was about.
Whatever’s causing it - stress, too many of Dr. Feelgood’s happy pills, incipient dementia or something worse - it’s going to get worse with time, not better.
The last time we had an addle-brained celebrity Republican wind up President, they lasted 8 years and helped give rise to the modern Republican party in all its evil glory!
