I live in Ohio. We have a Republican governor, Kasich, and both a Republican (Portman) and Democrat (Brown) in the Senate. I’m not sure what our House makeup looks like, but it’s probably mostly Republican.

After such a disastrous first week of Trump, I can’t sit idly by anymore. I am going to begin a letter writing campaign to our governor and both senators, and possibly to House reps as well. In very even and measured tones I plan to make it clear that the current course the country is taking is wrong. I plan to express my opposition to the Wall, to Repeal without Replace, to the immigration ban, to the use of Executive Orders (or Presidential Memos or whatever) to circumvent due process, and to the general lack of decorum, integrity and statesmanship displayed by our President in general. I will implore the people who represent my state to do what I elected them to do (and I actually did vote for all of them) and stand up for what is right, what is true to American core values, and not sit by while Trump’s administration subverts everything that our democratic system represents. I will make it clear that not only does Trump not have a mandate from Middle America (Ohio!), but that many people I know personally here in Middle America who voted for him are now horrified by what is happening. I want to make it crystal clear that in the past I have supported them to the fullest and am proud of what they have done collectively for Ohio, but if they are not going to stand united against Trump, then their days in office are numbered.

I plan to reiterate this with additional letters every couple of weeks until real resistance is seen. I may end up on a watch list, but it needs to be done. Nothing motivates a politician more than knowing his seat may be in jeopardy. If enough members of the Senate and House hear this from their constituents, if enough governors are put on notice, then maybe things will change.

Good news for you is your governor knows, since he’s been saying it forever.

Meanwhile in Iowa talking to one’s representatives is akin to talking to a tree. A tree that hates you and wants to steal your money. Basically, all of my elected reps are on the Trump train, in first class.

I tried to interact with Grassley back in the Death Panel days and his office basically called me an idiot for listening to the “media manipulation” of presenting his speech in it’s entirety.

I didn’t realize how far reaching this ban was - a number of senior engineers at my company are stranded outside of the US due to this. Some were born in the UK and are English citizens but got an Iranian visa to visit family easier and this puts them on the list as well.

What a mess.

But don’t worry, all the 9/11 hijackers could still get in.

Well, we all knew the American empire, like all empires before it, would crumble at one point in time, I guess we just didn’t imagine it would be in our time. I guess the only thing we can look forward to is that it will be broadcast live as it happens, and in the nuclear wasteland of the future, at least the Earth will be better off, once the radiation has cleared and humanity is just dust blowing in the wind.

Hey, we can’t ban folks from Saudi Arabia. That’d have impacts on Trump’s business.

Think before you speak, man!

… And I never imagined it would be caused by the President as a matter of policy. So much of what Trump is doing - instituting trade barriers, trash-talking EU and NATO, trolling our neighbors, bullying the UN, cutting ourselves off from talented immigrants, embracing failing state Russia and shunning rising superpower China, etc. etc. - will result in diminished US prestige, power, and influence in the world. We may never recover those things.

Then Trump turns around and tells his gullible supporters he’s “Making America Great Again.” At this rate we’re going to be as “great” as North Korea.

I can’t stand Trumpgrets. That stuff absolutely enrages me.

That said, we gonna need to convert those folks hard to the side of justice.

I’m the same way. Especially the pro-Trump teachers who are complaining about DeVos now. How about educating yourself on the GOP agenda before you vote?

Seriously WTF!

But then you’d miss gems like this:
“It’s like watching a horrible car crash where nobody wore seatbelts because seatbelts are just a plot by liberals to keep you trapped in the car.”

Bannon is basically President at this point, with Donnie as his meat puppet.

The people in my company, heck, my industry, are going nuts right now. No one is sure what’s going on, except that things just got really touchy for a lot of our tech folks here in the US. I just got off a phone conference in which someone told us that their family is being impacted right now due to this ban on immigration. They don’t feel safe. No one could really say anything to make it better.

This country is a shit show.

I’m not feeling good about my country today.

What does this mean exactly?

That folks who are currently stranded in NY Airports and come in? Does that extend to current legal US residents outside the US?
