Still Slavic languages though, the overlap in sentence structure and the like would likely be similar.

Ironically it’s not what the founding fathers actually wanted from the constitution which was for it to be thrown out and rewritten from scratch every 20 years. Both Jefferson and Hamilton, despite their opposing views, would find it pathetic and hilarious that people are arguing about what they might or might not have meant centuries after the constitution was written down.

I’m always jealous of people who can speak (or at least understand) so many languages. I can only speak English and my native Derp.

But it’s totally consistent with that view.
They wanted it to be RE WRITTEN, not merely interpreted however since individual felt like it.
How can one be OK with it when the Senate Republican leadership essentially stole the seat by not holding a vote for Garland? That shit was unconstitutional, end of story. And now they’re about to be rewarded for it.

Supreme Court is now Judicial Apprentice.

Hardiman actually didn’t look so bad to me when I was reading up on him yesterday. About his most extreme ruling was that a bracelet that says “I love boobies” isn’t protected speech because a bracelet is not clothing.
Gorsuch, as others have said, is just Scalia 2.0. So the Dems had a chance to shift the balance of the court but blew it because they thought it was more politically expedient to let the Republican obstructionism stand. (Of course, I’ve also argued that pushing Garland through by saying the Republicans had their chance to provide advise and consent and passed would play into their hands when it came time to de-legitimize the judiciary so maybe this is the lesser of two evils.)

How were they supposed to get Garland in, EO or recess appt?

Hardiman is pretty anti-defendant from what I’ve seen. Given how things are going… not very reassuring.
I’d MUCH rather have someone like Scalia on the bench protecting my rights than the guy who seems to give a pass to cops no matter what they do. I don’t agree with originalism for the most part, but one thing it does very well is protect people’s rights from the government.
Higher ed reform task force to be led by Falwell.

Falwell told The Associated Press he spoke with Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump’s senior strategist, on Tuesday about the role. He says the details of the task force are still being sorted out, but the aim will be “to get the government off the backs of higher education.”
Falwell says he is scheduled to discuss the task force with Trump Wednesday.
I once heard a Liberty University lecture podcast that was quite good. Of course, it was American history, not biology… (Optimism…)
Wrong thread for that!
To spread some more gloom - Trump has flown both people on his SCOTUS short list in for the official announcement tonight. People are comparing this to the Apprentice. But I get this sinking feeling it’s not just some reality show gimmick, and he’s gonna try to pack the court with both.
How would that work out any better for him than it did for FDR?
In other news, water wet, sky blue, freedom dying.
People sometimes get real feisty when I suggest that Democrats take up the same bullshit, fuckhead tactics as the Republicans, but c’mon y’all. Everything about the last, I dunno, 20-30 years (and particularly the last 10) should illustrate the benefits of that kind of shit. They win and win and win, to probably quote the Cheetoh Supreme.
2017 is just a steady march toward everything I’ve ever feared.

But the GOP controlled the Senate. You don’t. So you can’t do what they did.
This isn’t the hill to die on, because you aren’t gonna win. Save your powder for a fight you can win.

GOP didn’t for the first 2 years either though. They just “filibustered” everything. Dems could easily do the same thing and the GOP isn’t going to be getting 60 anytime soon (unlike the Dems who sort of had it near the end of those 2 years).
No, they can’t. And it’s their own fault. Look up congress and “nuclear option”

I can’t win shit. I’m a libcuck sore loser/anchor baby living in North Cackalack, where the grass is brown and the people are shitty. I’m trying not to let myself believe that the phonelines at Tillis and Burr’s offices are actively screening my calls at this point.
My best options now are moving around in circles holding witty signs that change nothing, shouting at people on Quarter to Three to no effect, or drinking myself into oblivion.
Booze is pricier than markers or internet access, so the choice seemed clear!
Well, they can certainly filibuster the Supreme Court nominee, and bullshit laws (as long as they’re not passed as some kind of budget thing, I gather).
BTW the first Senate Leader that threatened to “go nuclear” was Bill Frist, as I recall.
