This was my TV setup back in 2002. I get bored watching TV, I guess.

Amazing how much equipment an iPad replaces!

So how would my e-ink Kindle time be categorized? In my mind it’s really no different than reading a book. I hold it in my hand and ready wherever. It is an electronic device, however.

I’ll give a show my full attention if it warrants it. Hell, I had to rewatch Witcher because I missed all the boobies! But normally yeah, I’ll do something else at the same time. Shows like the CW Arrowverse (especially Legends, which is straight up silly) are good for that. Or anything kinda fun but poorly written and acted like . . . oh gobs of stuff.

But yeah, some movies draw you in and you pay attention. No wonder filmmaking has changed so much in the last 30 years.

!!!

The whole idea of expecting people to (do other) work in a meeting is mind boggling. If they don’t need to pay attention/contribute, why are they in the meeting? And it surely wouldn’t need to be four hours long if everyone was actually contributing to the meeting. I’ll do a quick check of my emails/Teams every now and then, but that’s it.

If we got back the time we lose for every time some ass says sorry I was multi-tasking or my favorite, my team mates literally sending me messages asking me, me, what they were supposed to do again, we could turn almost all our 1 hour meetings into 30 minute affairs, and almost never have a 4 hour meeting again. And yes, members of my team will actually ask me right after the meeting asking what our manager said they were supposed to do either because they didn’t understand and didn’t want to ask, sometimes, or they were not freaking paying attention, more common.

The dearth of desktop internet time on the chart above makes me sad :(. Though I love my smartphone to bits, I still spend the majority of my entertainment hours parked in front of a dual (or triple, at work) monitor setup, experiencing media and the net the way they were meant to be enjoyed, dammit.

I’ve been a professional web developer for over 10 years. Everything we do now is mobile first. The way modern websites are meant to be enjoyed is on your phone.

You make me sick!

Desktops forever!!!

I dunno, I can’t think of a single web site that is enjoyable or easy to use on my phone. There is simply not enough useable real estate. Some mobile apps are good, especially utilitarian ones (banking, etc). For the web, though, it’s my tablet first, then maybe my laptop or desktop. Never my phone.

Analytics don’t lie. The vast majority of traffic is from mobile phones. Maybe not this site, considering the demographic…

You mean the demographic of smart, experienced, dare-I-say WISE elder tech enthusiasts who know wtf we’re talking about??

PUT THE PHONES DOWN AND BUY ANOTHER MONITOR

I don’t doubt that at all, given that there are far more mobile phones in the world, and given that most people carry one all the time and access the web with them. Trying to optimize your site for a phone screen is paramount. That doesn’t mean the experience is top notch, however, or that it isn’t better with a bigger screen and better controls.

I use whatever is most convenient at the time. That could be my phone, my computer, my smarthome hub, my console. I’m not really so picky I would avoid these devices although I do have preferences.

100% of my time browsing whilst on the pooper is via mobile. Take that for data!

Pretty shitty data though.

Maybe he needs to switch to fiber.

I DO NOT want to know what his streaming options are.

Have him check his logs.

This is one of those times where the boss hog avatar really helps make your posts.
