There are two cartoons. The first is a black guy driving with the (stereotypical) posture of a black man. The second is a cartoon of the same character but in driving with the posture of a white person. In the image preview, the algorithm chose the “driving like a white guy” cartoon twice rather than show the other. So even in a cartoon showing stereotypes, it still appears to have been biased towards the “whiter” option.

Yeah, you need to open the tweets in a real Twitter app to see how it renders it. Discourse just shows the full images.

And in the case of the driving posture one you have to have a mental model of (stereotypical) black and white driving posture.

Is no one just going to share the bit?

I wasn’t sure where to share this (it’s more Corporate Media Controls the World than Social Media) but I thought it was well done. Carlos Maza formerly of Vox.

On the twitter thing, potentially traumatizing, though, we have also…

This new fad is the best thing on twitter in a long time.

Liberal but older generation friend shared this un-ironically on FB today. She may be surprised how many comments it collected before she wakes up tomorrow. MOST OF MINE ARE ALL UPPERCASE, SORRY FOR SHOUTING.

It almost looks like they’re berating the guy in the wheelchair for not standing for the anthem.

Well, you don’t need the arm to stand up and I see two legs!

It’s probably a rabbit hole to ask them what history they think has been written that is somehow… detrimental to their belief system. So many people never even heard of the Tulsa massacre until this year. That wasn’t by accident.

Words can’t describe how tired I am of Facebook posts and replies from people parroting the Fox News / Trump lies that “Mail-In ballots are fraud”. So many “Well I’m retired military and voted absentee for years and mail-in ballots are not the same, you don’t even have to prove who you are to vote Mail-In!”.

I just keep posting links to articles from neutral sources (so I don’t get the autogenerated “CNN/WaPo/NBC is FAKE NEWS URGH!” replies) explaining how 35 states have now made Absentee ballots available to everyone, and several more have simply abolished the Absentee Ballot request system and instead are mailing all registered voters official ballots they can mail-in. All forms of absentee and mail-in ballots still require identity verification. There is no ballot you can fill out multiple copies of and mail in dozens of times, or attempt to fake being dozens of non-existent people. I mean, I guess technically you could, but I hope you like prison food.

Don’t respond to those type of posts (if you don’t know them well).
It tells Facebook to keep showing you more & more of them.

Better yet, dump Facebook period.

Problem is it’s mostly people I do know well, as I have a lot of Conservative friends thanks to where I live (Southwest Ohio) and the schools my kids attend(ed). They’re mostly decent people but a steady diet of Fox News and a willingness to blindly vote single-issue (Catholic, Pro-Life) has rotted their brains to the point where they don’t really think for themselves anymore (although they believe they still do).

Maybe I just need better (or less) friends. =)

If people dumped Facebook here, there’d be a good chance some of them would be dead, literally.

I don’t like Facebook policies, but when it’s the only source of information you have, it is what it is.

Catholics should be anti-Trump based on the Pope’s missives. I think anti-abortion is just an excuse at this point. If abortion was removed, there’d be yet another excuse for voting Republican no matter how horrible they are.

Facebook poetry:

I’ve been wondering why this entire
country seems to be under a cloud of
constant misery.

Why we all seem to be Russians
waiting in line for toilet paper, meat, Lysol.
Hoarding yeast and sourdough starter
“in case we can’t get bread”,
Buying stamps so that one of our most
beloved institutions might survive.

Why we all look like we are in bad need
of a haircut, or a facial or a reason to dress up again and go somewhere.

Anywhere

There is no art in this White House.
There is no literature or poetry in this
White House. No music.
No Kennedy Center award celebrations.

There are no pets in this White House.
No loyal man’s best friend. No Socks the family cat.

No kids science fairs.

No times when this president takes off his
blue suit-red tie uniform and becomes human, except when he puts on
his white shirt-khaki pants uniform and hides from Americans to
play golf.

There are no images of the first family
enjoying themselves together in a moment
of relaxation.

No Obama’s on the beach in Hawaii
moments, or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport, no Reagans on horseback,
no Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape.

I was thinking the other day of the summer
when George H couldn’t catch a fish
and all the grandkids made signs and
counted the fish-less days.
And somehow, even if you didn’t even like GHB, you got caught up in the joy
of a family that loved each other and had fun.

Where did that country go? Where did all
of the fun and joy and expressions of love and happiness go? We used to be a country
that did the ice bucket challenge and raised millions for charity.

We used to have a president that calmed and
soothed the nation instead dividing it.
And a First Lady that planted a garden
instead of ripping one out.

We are rudderless and joyless.
We have lost the cultural aspects of
society that make America great.

We have lost our mojo. Our fun, our happiness.
The cheering on of others.
The shared experiences of humanity that makes it all worth it.
The challenges AND the triumphs that we shared and celebrated.
The unique can-do spirit Americans
have always been known for.

We are lost.
We have lost so much
In so short a time.

– Elayne Griffin Baker

More tears now. That’s… yes. Just exactly so.
