He was great in the Last Starfighter though.

The dead, shark-like eyes are showing through more with each passing day. Someday soon, a rotating maw of seven interlocking rings of crooked, bloody teeth will shred through the impassive porcelain mask containing his true nature, and he will sing the song that sells your data to a Russian intelligence asset tasked with electoral destabilization.

Obligatory:

The Ritual of Cambridge Analytica having been performed several years ago could account for the obvious strain on his human husk.

It’s almost as if prioritising engagement at all costs is a really bad thing for society. Who knew?

Isn’t that the same for news media? If it bleeds it leads.

Also bad for society.

No disagreement here.

I’m having a hard time telling from the context…
Are we talking about content which is itself bad for the world (like, for instance, stuff which promotes Russian propaganda and disinformation), or are we talking about content which is about stuff that is bad for the world (like, “Global warming is gonna kill billions”)?

I think it’s the former. It better be the former.

Well the categories “bad for the world” and “good for the world” were decided via user survey, so it could mean anything. For example, someone posting a loving memorial about their daughter that recently committed suicide - bad or good for the world to see? There’s nothing evil there, and the post likely has warnings about watching out for loved ones, but it’s emotionally costly and probably a little depressing to see. Could go either way.

It seems like the important part is FB decided something was good or bad and then got stuck in their but without it people don’t use FB as much. I trust neither Facebook’s judgment as a company nor their ability to actually choose less money regardless of their outcome.

note: article is paywalled so I did not read it. I support a few other medias, just not that one.

For @ArmandoPenblade , with love:

Nice, she was doing a decent job channeling Zach de la Rocha’s ‘Wake Up’ energy.

Definitely of the Alice Cooper mold, he did what he did to make some money and get people to sit up and notice, but underneath about as boring and delightful as your local baker.

So Facebook changed their layout and it’s the worst thing ever.

It’s like they saw when Twitter changed stuff and thought “man, this isn’t horrible enough, let’s do this only worse” and then did it.

Your own page is off center. Over half the screen is basically empty.
It makes looking at a Twitter Mobile page on a desktop seem great.

But Dark Mode or something. The page is like physically painful to look at for me.

Yeah, I switched over in August. Still not liking it.

In addition to the waste of screen space, the less subtle content change was removing the option to prefer showing “most recent” content, and instead you only get the things they choose for you, or to prefer content of specific individuals.
