That take needs Occam’s Razor on which is more plausible -
The “Dems just took the senate”, so social media companies, that have made billions off hosting Trump through the years, secretly wanted him gone and now are doing it because of The GOP losing power, or
The President incited a violent insurrection at the Capitol based on continued delusions the election was stolen from him, and intimated that he will continue to do so.
This one isn’t hard
Yeah, as noted earlier, it seems like the plan was to cut Donald off as soon as Biden was sworn in, but the events of the week and the further destabilizing of the situation warranted doing it now. Plus, all the talk of attacking and killing people on those apps is simply too much. Talk about policy, yes. Outright discussion of murdering police and Democrats? The line was crossed.

So it’s like in Phantom Menace after they destroy the droid control ship.
I think all of that’s true, and a more accurate reflection of what’s going on, but it does raise an interesting side question as to what the social media reaction would look like if D electoral performance hadn’t been as strong, to say nothing of the utter horror if the fascist orange turd had been re-elected. It certainly is the case that social media companies are in a position to yield what I’d call undue influence over the political process, not that that’s news.

I’m going to agree with Mike Duncan’s take here.
Now you can absolutely say that the events of this week were the inciting incident, but there has been no small amount of rumbling over the last few months on a fear of regulatory oversight for their roles in enabling right wing extremism. So these social media networks are well aware of the possibility of a crackdown.
So when the Dems won Georgia it made those fears plausible, and when the 6th happened, well, it meant that their role in enabling that was going to come under harsh scrutiny. So they have thrown in against Trumpism groups, not out of some partisan motivation, but in order to stave off a harsher regulatory environment.

If Trump had won they wouldn’t have stormed the Capitol to capture, terrorize and maybe execute elected representatives. I mean that act of terrorism is not a minor piece of the equation. They could no longer downplay that;it happened.
All of America’s mistakes prior to this were small potatoes.

Close, but they should have asked for signed affidavits.

From Rome, don’t forget that part. It’s only important if it comes from Rome.

Nothing new under the sun, even history.
So of course the fall of the republic is going to have some connection to Rome.

Such a tragedy for Sorbo to lose so many bot followers.
