Twitter helpfully reverts back to top posts every so often (on purpose) to drive eyeballs where they think they should go. Though really the issue isn’t for us, it’s for those who either don’t know better or want to be dropped down the rabbit hole.

Agreed, that’s the problem. Gabbard and Gosar’s recent bill was actually intended to address this by carving out an exception to section 230 for non-chronological content:
(4) EXCEPTION.—
(A) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding para19 graph (1), an owner or operator of a social media service that displays user-generated con21 tent in an order other than chronological order, delays the display of such content relative to other content, or otherwise hinders the display of such content relative to other content, if for a reason other than to restrict access to or availability of material described in paragraph (2)(A) or to carry out the direction of the user that generated or requested such content or generated or requested restricted access to such content, shall be treated as a publisher or speaker of such content.
If I’m interpreting the legalese here, they’re saying that if your algorithm recommends content based on anything other than New, you are responsible as a publisher for that content?
That will kill these sites. People will just spam the same thing over and over to keep their thing “new”. It’s a nice idea but poorly thought out.
Thanks for the link that was helpful. Although, after reading them all I’m not sure I’m any closer to be able to say if the Parler post are “true threats”. Parler defense could easily be, look there were tens of thousand of threats put on our platform. Prior to Jan 6, only (zero, one or two) resulted in a credible threat and no one was harmed. We should be held to no higher standard that AT&T or Verizon

That’s probably true. It was DoA legislation anyway, introduced at the end of the House session. But it’s an example of the kind of regulation that might mitigate the problem of algorithmic content curation.
“If you build a that that picks and chooses, you’re responsible for what it picks and chooses” seems rather reasonable. The part at the end about “direction of the user […] that requested such content” seems like it could end up a Chunnel-sized loophole through which exceptions get driven.

Half scoop has some thoughts on this whole social media censorship thing
In short; he wants Elon Musk, who put manned people in space, to create the next Parler. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

Have we sent unmanned people into space? Is that the preferred term for female astronauts?
Everyone misspeaks so I can’t hold it against him, but it is glaringly stupid. He also does seem a bit animated. Is it common knowledge that he does coke? I never have any idea about this stuff.
I hope in a couple of weeks his comments are mostly ignored by people. He’s not worth the time.

Oh yeah, I don’t hold misspeaking against him. I hold being Don Jr. against him. What a rancid dumbass that guy is.
Just as common as the knowledge of Obama’s lack of American citizenship.

I don’t think that is quite an apt comparison. There has never been any possibility that Obama was not in reality an American citizen, while the assertion that Don Jr. has used cocaine can neither be proven or disproven. But you are right that it is certainly not “common knowledge” or “safe to assume”-- I mean there are a plethora of other stimulants available.
I’ve just seen it here enough to think there must be something to it.
Anyway, I don’t care if he or anyone else cokes up.

Can we get a five-day head start on not caring what any of Trump’s hellspawn say or do?

Actually ‘unmanned’ is a term for having your testicles cut off. At least in ancient times.

Damn. That’s no way to treat an astronaut, Elon.

Elon would probably say they were pedophiles anyway.
