Raises hand.

“I’m confident that by the end of the month, we’ll be back up,” Matze told Fox News Sunday. “We’re making significant progress. When you go into Parler.com it doesn’t go into the void now, it hits a server, and it returns just one piece of information.”

We’ll see, I guess. Currently, parler appears to be a static webpage with some fake-tweet formatting, which does indeed just require you to secure hosting. The actual effort of making a functional social network is a different matter entirely.

I suspect Parler.com will basically be static content for the foreseeable future, essentially a right wing blog. From a fleecing the rubes perspective, it’s probably all the same to Bongino.

They had an even steeper drop after Trump lost the election. They hadn’t banned him yet, but the presumed impact was felt.

Whatever, fuck Twitter. And Facebook. They can shut down tomorrow and I think everyone’s lives would improve greatly.

Heheh, I love me some dog/cat videos. GO The Dodo!

My youtube feed is almost exclusively 1) The Dodo 2) SNL Skits 3) Total War Warhammer 2.

Wait, I am a dork.

Yeah, The Dodo seems to have an inexhaustible playlist of dog and cat videos. I love it.

Just ban the fucking account already.

I was associating electricity with hot water, but then I remember some people use gas to heat water. Internet it is.

The point remains that social media has taken over the world, you either run with it or you are missing out. Every news now has social media components one way or another. Like XYZ making inappropriate comments on Twitter or FB, or bloody sea shanties on whatever. Life goes on with electricity or social media, but modern life doesn’t.

I get along fine without Twitter or Facebook. I realize I’m not young and “with it” but I don’t care about tweets or my feed. Both services could ban me tomorrow and my life would go on unchanged. Turn off my electricity, and that would be an immediate issue. Frankly, I think the world could use a good reduction in social media.

Get off my lawn!

Wait, so there is a realistic chance to take Fox News or OAN off air??? I’m just being realistic here, we start with engaging our co-workers, our neighbours, and our out-there uncles and aunts, and build the momentum. I’m all for grassroot activism.

Some actually, not hyperbolic stats about Twitter, taken from https://www.wordstream.com/blog/ws/2020/04/14/twitter-statistics

22% of US adults use Twitter.
80% of Twitter users are characterized as “affluent millenials.”
30 million of Twitter’s daily users are American (with roughly 59 million total American users).

So yeah, I don’t think that something that 22% of adults use can be classified as a modern “necessity.” Maybe if you are a young, rich, white millennial it feels like it’s required, but it’s really not.

There are 300 million of us Americans who manage to not use Twitter daily who find life just as fulfilling, who somehow manage to figure out what our friends ate last night (or just don’t care) and somehow keep up with current events. Can you imagine?!

I have both a Twitter and a Facebook account. I never use them. Why not delete them? Inertia, laziness I guess.

Looking at more stats on that page, I don’t see how these stats can work together. There’s no way 80% of their users are affluent or millennial based on any reasonable definition of those terms.

I have a deactivated fb account that I haven’t logged into in a year. I don’t have a Twitter account. The only reason I encounter twitter is it’s been so present and visible in the daily conversation, it’s simply unavoidable. And it’s completely involuntary.

It’s often the best parts of Trump discussion here.

I think Parler is coming back the same way Napster came back.

I have a Facebook account, but haven’t logged in for several months. I’d delete it, but I have a bunch of old photos that I’m not sure are saved anywhere else.

Is there an easy way to scrape those? I think I have a couple hundred, at least.

I’d like to know this as well.

Can we stop talking about people being denied their free speech rights yet?
