Mostly to monitor my mother’s usage of it these days and try to give her actual information.

Also a couple of friends who don’t use Twitter for God-only-knows reasons.

In my circle of friends and acquaintances, Twitter is seen as a source of information that you follow not an exchange of information that you participate in. So no one uses it for the sort of personal slice of life contact that Facebook is good at.

Same for me. There are maybe 20 people on my twitter feed that I engage with vs many times that on Facebook.

This is terrifying.

I’m probably being too serious about a throw away message but why is that terrifying?

Facebook for people you know (to some level) and might actually want to respond to or at least get the current version of Christmas letters.

Twitter for entities that you want to hear from - bands, restaurants, hobby related stores - but would otherwise forget to check on. More or less junk mail and promotions but curated by you instead of being random. Plus some professional tweets since I’m in education and sometimes buy into the idea of making your own PD via social media (currently that is really out of favor with me but it was information for a while).

Some people use twitter as a source about information on current events. That’s what is terrifying. 😀. Your examples are all sensible, sorry for misunderstanding

Got a Facebook survey tonight from FB, and it was all about my perception of Facebook, how I use it and how they can improve it. Seemed very much based on recent events.

Were all your responses ‘fuck you Mark Zuckerburg’?

Now now, that would be rude.

I would write in, “Replace your CEO with someone with a wider range of human understanding. Like, for example, a waxwork from Madame Tussaud’s.”

Their algorithms might read that as an invitation. We all know FB doesn’t make enough money to use real humans anymore.

I took it seriously, hoping that they would too. It’s not likely to shut down anytime soon after all.

Surprising.

It’s also a pretty big thread and an interesting one.

I’m pleasantly surprised. It’s the stance I wish Facebook had taken.

Wow.

He’s an asshole, but he made the right call in this case. Good on Twitter.

Here’s the Facebook middle finger.

More gaming of Facebook’s system, and more evidence that Facebook only wants to allow certain (Trump) politicians to get away with lying in ads.

The Trump administration, and the Republican party, have been rattling the tech company cage about how “biased” they are and threatening action. The Justice Department has occasionally filed cases against them.

Facebook is just the most deliberate form of appeasement whose leadership fears oversight and government interference.

Great move by Twitter. Zuckerberg is a dyed in the wool psychopath. He’s up there with Murdoch in terms of how much damage he is doing to society. Facebook is up there with Union Carbide and Bhopal, Nestle and child slaves, CocaCola and executed union members, Shell and murdered activists. This is pure corporate evil.
