Solasta vs. Wrath of the Righteous vs. Baldur's Gate 3

I would hesitate to say worse. Sometimes simplicity is a welcome relief.

It’s somewhat like Baulder’s Gate 1 and 2 vs the Icewind Dales. Single character story drive narrative vs full party creation dungeon romp. Same systems different takes. Production value aside :)

Is a really good point. It surprised me how much production value adds to this type of game. As a rule I’d skip cutscenes as fast as possible and considered voice acting a waste of money. Quality story needed text.

Then along came a crpg that actually excelled in those areas. Haven’t played Solasta yet, but between WotR (which I adore) and BG3, BG3 takes the crown and it’s not particularly close. Take away those production values and they easily switch places.

Gameplay is still king, but production value has suprisingly more value than I would expect in this type of game. No doubt that’s subjective, and genre specific, but seems to be a common response.
