The Mothership is standing by!

That steam page doesn’t mention the Cataclysm standalone expansion. I guess that’s not part of this Homeworld 1+2 remaster. That’s too bad, I’d heard a lot of good things about that expansion.

From what I’ve read (today) the Cataclysm source code was lost, so it isn’t going to be included/remastered.

No one had a copy of the game on disk? I even have a copy I could have let them borrow. :p

So are there any mission based space sims in the pipeline at the moment except for Wings of Saint Nazaire? The last one I played was the fan made Wing Commander game in the Freespace 2 engine which was a lot of fun despite the annoying protect the capital ships against the torpedo missions that drove me mad.

The single player component of Star Citizen… supossedly…

2 Years of development, $70,000,000 budget and all they have to show for it is a limited, buggy arena shooter prototype? I’ll be honest, I’m not holding my breath.

Also, I can’t make head or tales of their insane monetization strategy. No way am I buying a $50.00-$500.00 spaceship that is just going to get blown up and lost by some griefer the first time I take it for a test drive.

Probably fine for both of them if there is a reasonable graphics upgrade.

Disappointing about cataclysm though. In my opinion, it was a lot better than the second game.

I think that’s ~$15 too high for me, but I’ve replayed both HW1 and HW2 semi recently (maybe 5 years ago?) And that price is certainly in line with the Age of Empires/Mythology and Rise of Nation remakes.

I still highly recommend both games to anyone that hasn’t played them. I also really enjoyed HW1 multiplayer way-back when. There were some ‘cheese’ tactics like the infamous ‘battle ball’, but overall the game really had a great balance of ship types. And the pacing made for some very dramatic moments where the fleet battles would ebb and flow as each side gained the upper hand, only to lose it as another powerful frigate or destroyer would gracefully slide out of the mothership’s construction bay and enter the fray.

@HW: Cataclysm: I liked their changes in a few cases (e.g., the upgrades that slowly transform your mining command ship, the 3d-box view they added to make initial map exploration more interesting), but I had mixed feelings about some of their zany ship design (like the dreadnoughts that had their special ‘push’ power). For one thing, it was a weird change towards individual ship micromanagement that the original Homeworld design avoided. On the other hand, I think you could build multi-beam frigates during the final missions of the campaign, and those were pure awesome.

Two words: Super Acolyte.

Ooo, good call. I think that’s what I had in mind, but I’d confused it with the also-awesome multi beam frigates from HW1.

laser BEAMZ, but also story spoilers

Homeworld Remastered incoming:

Really? :P

Man i am all over that :D

“There is no… withdraw… from the garden”

So would anyone like in on our X-wing vs TIE Fighter bout this week?

Its probably not possible for me due to timezone differences, but when is it?

I’d love to watch it. Not so much play, I hate being embarrassed. ;-)

OH come on man, it’ll be fun.

Oh, sorry, it’s 5 PM Pacific on Thursday night.
