I wish the Amiga conversion had been made early when EA fully supported the platform rather than farmed out years later. (But I was still super stoked there was an Amiga version.)
Someone once tried to tell me the Amiga version was the best version. I laughed.
Friends, I’m exhausted, so no LP series this week. I did spend the day at a Retro Gaming Expo this past weekend, so I hope this write-up makes up for it the lack of a LP series. I’ll try to write some other stuff this week too.
On the podcast this Tuesday at 5:30 PM Pacific, we’ll be talking to the folks behind the fascinating spacey mining sim, Planetary Prospectors: A.R.M..
On Thursday, we’ll be (trying to, if we can get it to work) playing Treasure Planet: Battle of Procyon in multiplayer with some of the folks who worked on it!
That’s it, thanks folks!
Isn’t the combat gameplay also more refined? Closer to Star Control than the original Starflight? That was my impression when I played the game -bouncing off the PC version but loving the Genesis game- (the graphics are a little bit cartoony compared to other versions, but I can live with that).
I believe so, but I’ve not gotten that far yet.
Well, I’m really looking forward to reading your thoughts!
Wow, the Genesis Starflight manual is already paying off. It has a whole short story, written by I believe a San Fransisco sci-fi author, about an all-Human crew retrieving artifacts for a Thrynn colony, who shares a system with a joint Velox-Elowan colony. The Thrynn can’t land on the planet because the living sea screws with their mind (which, if I recall, is in the game too), so they needed Humans to land. It was such a great read, and there’s still a ton of the manual left. I can’t wait to play more of this version of the game.
Interesting news today: Nordic Games announces that they acquired a few more classic IPs, including Imperium Galactica.

Perhaps now we’ll see Imperium Galactica 1 and 2 show up on GOG? I’d certainly like that.

If you can’t wait, IG2 is already available on both iOS and Android. So is Hegemonia.

The thing I liked most about the MS sidewinder was the particular green color the buttons were. I find it calming. I’d have a car that color. Any idea what it is?
Hey look guys, a new 4X is coming!
Dammit Rubin, I swear half my wishlist is filled with space games you point out!

You’re welllllcoooooooooommmmmeeeeeeeeee… skips away
Oh good I’m not the only one. My Steam wishlist typically grows by one game (at least) every time SGJ drops a new podcast.
Yaaaayyyyyy!!! Thank you!
The Starflight 2 hint book was written as a novella as well, which was pretty good (at least, I remember thinking it was fun to read when I was…11 or 12 when it came out).
Welcome to another week of polite promotion my friends! For this week’s game, I tackle 1995’s unique, fantastic and engaging Millennia: Altered Destinies! I really love this game a lot.
On the podcast this week, we’ll be talking to the folks behind the upcoming card-based 4X game, Galacollider!
On Thursday’s Multiplayer Madness, it’s Freelancer time! We’re not 100% on the mod we’ll be using, though. It’ll be either the Discovery Freelancer or Freeworlds mod.
Thanks folks! :)
