It looks like BOTF is abandonware only :(
Oh yeah, totes not available anywhere digitally, and I’ve been scrounging ebay and amazon for an affordable CD copy for ages now (I like having physical copies of these older games, dammit, especially for the manuals).

No love for the Starfleet Command games?
I love the first two (three with Orion Pirates?) a lot, but they’re not at the top of my personal lists.

Here is the main BOTF modding site:
http://www.armadafleetcommand.com/botf
There’s a link to the forums where you can find out about the various mods and also a downloads link. The community’s actually done a lot of pretty amazing work,IMO, on this older game. I’d recommend checking out the forum and looking at what the various mods so. I played some a number of years ago and I think I remember that Balance of Power and the Ultimate mod were pretty good.
Maybe you could test some and do an article on BOTF modding, hint, hint :)
Ohhh, stuff for the Armada games as well, nice! Thanks!
Welcome to another awesome week of space gaming my friends! This week’s game of the week is the new Slitherine 4X, Polaris Sector! I also have a new video up of the upcoming Master of Orion reboot, and likely some more videos throughout the week, so keep an eye out! :)
On Tuesday’s Podcast (5:30 PM Pacific), we’ll talk to the brotherly developers behind the upcoming spacey combat and exploration game, Star Command: Galaxies.
On Thursday’s Multiplayer Madness (5:30 PM Pacific), we’ll come back down to Earth with some Unreal Tournament 2004! You’re more than welcome to join us for that. ;) We’re gonna at LEAST do the awesome Assault on a train map. ;)
Thanks as always my friends! :)
Ha, Unreal Tournament 2004! I had so much fun with that game back in the day. :)
It’s still fun! I played it a year or so ago with a bunch of folks and my god it was still such a blast. I still think it’s really the top game in its class.
There’s a game in early access though that’s really striving for its crown called TOXIKK, and it’s actually pretty damned great.
Yeah, I played UT2k4 for a loooong time. There was this mutator for it that created capture points that changed from place to place, and coupled with the one-hit-kill mutator, it was TONS of fun.
I might reinstall it one day, but I’m not sure how well it aged. Or rather, how well I aged. ;)

I’ll third (fourth?) BoTF - one of the best 4x space games ever made. If GOG published it I’d snap it up in a second…
This. UT2004 remains a perfect jewel in MP shooter; hell, SP shooters for that matter because of its bots. But I don’t play it anymore because that gameplay just makes me hyperventilate after a while.
Wow, you guys, out of nowhere, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident gets a massive patch that adds HD support, supposedly fixes multiplayer and more.
Wow. Does it work with the GOG version (?), because that’s the one I have.
Apologies if the answer is in the link–I didn’t check first.
Unofficial word is that the patch should arrive on GOG in the following weeks, but again, there’s no official position yet.
It likely will, but the Steam version is also on sale at 75% off. ;) They also released the soundtrack on Steam as well today!

Brian, any further thoughts on Horizon? I read your 2013 preview. Have you played it much recently?
Ew, god, no, why, is someone daring you to play it?
