Sigh, it wasn’t BAD per se…it was just…DULL…like dishwater dull. Like, playing it invoked NO excitement or spark what so ever from me, which is saying something. It’s gotten a bevy of patches since then so maybe I should revisit it.

Understood. I’ll leave it alone for now. Thanks for your advice, as always.

Wow, I’m still the only curator for the game, and even I said:

“I played this a bit and found I just couldn’t go back to it. It was sadly too boring. :/”

So why are you a curator for it? I would think you’d only curate those games you liked.

Because I believe an informed consumer is the best consumer.

Brian - What do you think about Polaris Sector?

I’m digging it so far. Took the tutorial and a game or two to understand the unique concepts. Seems to hit a spot between the MoO-clone and DW:U.

I’m enjoying it so far, but I’ve got a caveat or two. Basically, pirates cheat. They’re overpowered, come out of nowhere and totally bottle you up before you have a chance to respond. I think one of the devs (at least that’s who I think it is) actually commented on one of my videos today and told me to abandon the game because of the pirates, and start either without pirates or on a bigger map. What?

But honestly, there’s a lot I really love about it too. The writing, the diplomatic options, the fantastic UI, the auto-pausing, the sound effects. Overall, I really dig it…except for pirates. Fuck pirates.

Brian,

Which one is better, Polaris or Stardrive II with the new DLC?

I am wondering because I did not buy the SD2 DLC but tried to go back to the game recently. It was a frustrating experience and I have uninstalled it again.

Did you expect pirates to play nice?

Granath, I’d say Polaris is more fun. To me at least.

Pirates ruined Endless Space for me, because they also seem to cheat in that game. I hope Endless Space 2 fixes that.

Well, I like to be informed as much as the next guy, but I also expect if you’re a curator for a game you by definition recommend it. If it really is the case that Steam curators recommend games they don’t like I guess that’s one “feature” of Steam I won’t be using any longer.

SGJ followers - 1

Dayum, cold man. Ice. Cold.

You were more diplomatic than I would have been. I would have advised something about door/ass/way out.

shrug Can’t make everyone happy. But hey, if the other 12,617 people who follow my curator page are happy, that works for me. ;)

Same here, and good for you, Brian.

As an FYI for the dictionary-impaired: a curator is one who takes care of, not one who recommends. For instance, a museum curator is not required to like all the pieces of art in their museum. And Brian is far from the only curator who does this - I have been turned away from various games thanks to the reviews found on curator pages.

Yeah, didn’t TotalBiscuit make a curator specifically to warn about framerate issues (maybe specifically locked framerates) that tends to show up on games that have that problem? It ends up making it clearly visible on the product page to avoid them if you don’t like that.

Also, this guy was kind of a dick to our super cuddly Brian Rubin… Get 'im!

Edit: yeah, here it is: http://store.steampowered.com/curator/9393382-The-Framerate-Police/

That’s an amazing and terrifying image, arrendek. ;) Thanks!

A curator generally ensures that something is worthy of an audience.

Steam defines its curators as “individuals or organizations that make recommendations to help others discover interesting games in the Steam catalog”.

They are distinct from reviewers. Brian’s reviews appear on separate page, each game with thumbs up or down. I couldn’t find Brian’s review of Horizon, but I noticed that Steam had helpfully added “Recommended by SGJ”.

I humbly hail from the group that thinks if a curator adds a title to their group it implies a recommendation, even a strong one. But maybe I am making too strong an assumption?

I suppose if Brian’s model is working for him and the SGJ community then who am I to say otherwise.

Regarding TotalBiscuits 30FPS Framerate Police group I actually find that annoying and kind of a perversion and abuse of the curation system, but it is one of the top 10 curation groups so my dissent is in the tiny minority.
