Friends, my blog turns 5 years old tomorrow, and I just wanted to take a moment to thank those who encouraged me to undertake the endeavour five years ago, along with everyone else around here who’s been so positive and encouraging. Thank you friends, y’all have been a boon to me. :)

After realizing No Man’s Sky wouldn’t work on my machine (and getting a bit discouraged by watching Tom’s stream), I decided to try out Space Engine. It is gorgeous.

I cant remember if I asked this before.
How is Star Nomad 2?
Can Mr @BrianRubin and anybody else who play this shed any light?
Star Nomad 2 looks like a simple game, but it belies a detailed background simulation that governs the universe. Looking at the map, you can easily see where conflicts and other stuff are happening so you can adjust your bounty hunting or trade routes accordingly. It’s really great.
Thanks! Wish-listed. Will either wait for a discount or after going through the backlog.
I need an expert here, please. Is there something like Star Nomad 2 in 3D (=meaning first-person-cockpit-view)? Since rhamorim and some others were quite positive about X Rebirth 4.0 I gave it a try…well, aside from being puzzled by it’s crazy UI I’m under the impression it does not really offer what I’m looking for: sandboxy trading & pirating + the possibility to destroy all my enemies and take over the universe! :-) I’d need a mod for that in X Rebirth and I’m a bit skeptical about how well it would work and how well it would be balanced… and before I’m really getting into that somewhat obfuscating X Rebirth-game… I wanted to ask here: …is there a game like Star Nomad 2 in 3D?

If you’re willing to forego the ability to have wingmen, then Evochron Legacy has your name all over it.
This would’ve been my answer as well.
You can always try X3: Albion Prelude. It’s a lot deeper than Rebirth, and the most complete game of that specific “universe simulator” sim that I know.
If trading/pirating is your thing, you can also try I-War 2, but that one has no factions to destroy/take over.
You can also try the Starpoint Gemini games, particularly Warlords, but that one is still early in its Early Access phase.
Finally, there’s SPAZ 2, but that one is also in Early Access.
Thank you all for your recommendations. I had Evochron Legacy on my list since it came out, mostly because of piloting and exploration. I’m not sure if it’s what I’m looking for right now.
Maybe it’s a paradox* what I was hoping for: A sandox that I can ‘win’ or at least break/crash/control. *Yeah, maybe like Paradox-Game ;) Meaning: The universe works fine without me, the simulation goes on and on, but as soon as I decide to become meaningful involved, I really can make a difference, I can bring it to somekind of end, like ‘winning’ the session because there are no enemies left or because I ruined them financially ;-)
In X Rebirth I can become the richest guy, but ultimately the factions will keep going on like they ever did, they really don’t care. In Star Nomad 2 I could play sandboxy while carefully watching the galaxy map and it was up to me, to make a final move to end the game (if I had been good enough; I will play that one again).
Well, I’ll definitely try Evochron Legacy soon.
Unending Galaxy might also scratch that itch.
