I just got a key for it this morning, so I hope to find out!

I’d like to know more too. Project Space Station was a very formative game for me. I’d really like to know if this measures up to those memories.

Anyone (named or not named BrianRubin) have any experience with Planet Explorers? 3D voxel/transformable/awesome world! Aliens! Flora! Robots! Future Stuff! Was thinking of diving into RimWorld but this thing just went 1.0, doesn’t seem to have insane hardware requirments, and looks really good. It didn’t pop up in a search here, but sure seems like someone would have at least fiddled with it in EA.

I am interested in this title, however I am going to wait and see. The videos of it are not encouraging because they are all heavily combat focused. I really have very little to no interest in that aspect of these kinds of games. It claims to have a good building and exploration part, but so far I have not seen any evidence of that aspect.

Well, I grabbed it last night. Won’t start up. Get a white ‘startup’ screen (guessing since it’s, you know, just white) which disappears after a few seconds and then nothing. Might be some sort of issue with my Win10 64bit and the ‘fix’ is to try using the 32bit version of VC++ Runtime. Seems like a bad thing to do for one game when I’m not even sure it would work. After trying a few less crazy fixes to no avail, I’m putting this away in hopes I can find a fix of some sort (via update or tweeks). It’s cheap enough and interesting enough that I’ll hang on to it.

I’ve played Planet Explorers a bit. Its your typical survival game written in Unity in many respects. I’m playing the story mode at the moment, the first 4 quests I’ve done have been collect plants so not off to a great start. The game has some charm though which is what will keep me playing for the moment but it could really use some more polish. The interface isn’t great and its not exactly bug free.

Id be interested in know how good the non-combat aspects of the game are.

OMG, Paul Neurath’s Space Rogue was released in GOG

This is the guy who started Looking Glass Studios. I remember loving this game so much on the Apple // but I am not sure if it still stand well now. Kudos for Otherside for releasing it in GOG.

It…doesn’t really stand well…

That is too bad. I remember this game fondly, especially on that green monochrome monitor. I didn’t realize they had made a port to IBM PC.

I loved that game back in the day. Oh well…

Yeah, I played it for the first time recently, and I found it plodding, boring and fairly empty in a lot of ways. At the time it came out, I was enamored with Starflight 2, Sentinel Worlds and Star Command, for example, which are alllllll better games, even today.

ah, ok, so you were not playing it in Apple //. Back then, there was no Starflight 2 or whatever and Space Rogue was genre defining. I might be able to get some nostalgic memories from it.

Somebody needs to bring back Sundog

Hell, if Retroism is going to bring back a golden oldie like Space Rogue, they need to bring back ALL of Origin’s games from that era (OGRE, Autoduel, Omega, Windwalker, etc. etc.) We’ve already got the Ultimas, of course, but I’ve never been a big fan of the Ultimas.

Both games came out in 1989. Starflight 2 never came to Apple ][, though, just Macinstosh in '91.

OGRE is being (re)done by Steve Jackson (if that is the OGRE game you are referring to) as a part of the OGRE kickstarter.

No, I had a real computer. ;-)
