I wish 3030 runs on the Mac so I can play at work during lunch breaks but alas, it’s Windows only and so I have only clocked an hour so far. Too early to give an impression but I’m liking the Indiana Jones vibes, the feeling of a busy space ports with lots of ships flying all over. I am getting a Space Ranger feel… you guys definitely must try it out.

Oh, the mouse to pilot ala Spaz is a must. You mean they don’t have it before?!!!

Sol Trader is awesome but I cant quite tell you why. terrible graphics, lame 2d ship navigation, buggy… and yet it has that magic spark of thousands of people interacting with each other over vast distances. Their relationships change and you will end up becoming involved in shaping their lives as you ferry people around or trade throughout the system

I am really digging it. Definitely an acquired taste, but its very much to mine.

It’s definitely gotten better since release. Hell, when last I played it, it didn’t even have a map for chrissakes, but the dev has added one since. :)

Yeah. Like I say it is difficult for me to explain just why I love it. There are so many things which are sub optimal. But it is also clearly the work of one person and his vision comes through strongly, which I adore.

Anyway, I am having a blast :)

Sol Trader looks interesting, but is there a lot of frantic mousing to move one’s ship around? My aging hands can’t take a lot of RTS/FPS mouse-twitch gaming. I can do plenty of clicking in a TBS by using Autohotkeys and such, but real-time stuff is harder. Is the 2D spaceflight a big part of the game? It seems so from the videos I’ve watched.

Not the way I play. I just use auto pilot. I never steer manually or with mouse. Autopilot to location picked from nav menu, land, trade etc. That may change if combat becomes required later in the game, but so far its been zero twitch.

@BrianRubin if you had $20 burning a hole in your Steam wallet would you spend it on Sol Trader or Pocket Space Empires? Yes, I realize they’re two different animals. But say, you had to choose before the internet dropped out on your desert island. Or dessert island.

Oh man, and those are my ONLY choices? Lemme think on it.

If you wait for a couple of weeks more, chances are that you may be able to get both.

Third choice is choose one of those games and gift it to me.

PSE dev, btw, says no discount at holiday sale bigger than current 10% off.

Oh! Doh!

Thanks! Good to know. Please keep us posted. :)

3030 Deathwar Redux. I am digging the game. Just upgraded my first space ship to a bigger one which does not turn as well but after purchasing a thrust engine, it feels much better. I like that space does not feel as empty or as lonely in this game. Now, if only I can figure out how to hail and communicate with those ships.

oh, and Rimworld… I would spend on that and be in a desert island.

Yes, this.

Does Deathwar Redux require twitchy mouse motions, or can one play with WASD/hotkeys?

Edit: It looks like keyboard only. Cool!

Yeah, the core of the game is keyboard only but the latest addition made mouse navigation available which was a relieve to me.

I haven’t played Sol Trader, but I would happily spend the money on Pocket Space Empires, or Void Destroyer 2. (I bounced off it when I first started earlier this week, but the combat began to click last night, even if I stubbornly persist in flying with rudder pedals for yaw and roll on the joystick, rather than the dev’s preferred mouse scheme. Too much flight simming lately. Can’t make the switch now.)

That was not an option (don’t like pixel art). I can’t decide between Sol Traders and Pocket Space Empires. Which would you pick? You have seven seconds to decide.

I’m enjoying Pocket Space Empires. I doubt it will become a classic or long run favorite, but feel pretty confident I’ll get my money’s worth out of it. I enjoy it’s mechanics more than those in Stellaris, the graphics are the only real downside of PSE.

I got excited for a second. Especially when I saw the “Full controller support”. But it’s still in Early Access. I wish there was a demo, because since Galak-Z came out, if a game doesn’t feel as good as Galak-Z when flying the ship, I’m always too disappointed to continue playing.
