Ah right, seems the 3D Pro never had USB, being produced in 1996.

I did some research and there’s a way to get it working, it involves building your own adaptor* using a breadboard. It’s actually pretty straightforward to build. The main problem is sourcing the components, but I’ll keep looking. Would be great to get this functional!

*A straight gameport/USB adaptor doesn’t work with this stick, apparently.

Holy geez! I got a Microsoft gamepad around that time, and it had a gameport to usb adapter. Wonder why it wouldn’t work here.

Not sure, just going on reports I’ve read.

The custom adaptor looks like this:

[edit] So apparently you can use a straight gameport to USB adaptor for this joystick, but it only works with 4 axes. The twist isn’t supported, neither is the throttle control, hence the custom adaptor.

So did I on my Sidewinder Pro, but it came with the stick. So who knows why it wouldn’t work here.

Yeesh, just buy a new stick at this point.

If you like, I can point out some fine Sidewinder Force Feedback 2’s on eBay. That’s where I got mine. ;)

On ebay they range from $9.10 to $127! I’ll take a closer look, but I’m also going to look at getting the parts to make this interface for the 3D Pro. I hate seeing a good joystick go to waste.

Oh sure, but if you want help, I can single out good ones (I did buy five of the things after all). This, for example, looks great:

Free shipping too.

Ohhh, this one also looks great:

Thanks Brian, I’ll sleep on it. :) The free shipping alas is US-only, but hopefully not too bad.

Paging @BrianRubin or any players of 3030 Deathwar Redux – during the introductory salvage spacewalk (right after the opening cutscene) my scanner kept pointing to a dude floating around in a spacesuit but I couldn’t seem to do anything for him. There was a line to him from the scanner so I thought that meant he was alive, right?

I think so, yeah.

Thanks. I joined the games Discord Channel, and asked there, and apparently the issue might have been that the guy in the spacesuit was floating on a wall tile, so I couldn’t properly fly my avatar “over” him to save him. I was afraid to shoot the wall for fear of hurting the guy.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is on GOG too, with the DLC that was just released. Instabuy for me now. ;)

Base game is 50% off too.

For someone who has zero familiarity with the BSG universe, but likes himself some capital ship combat, is this a game to pick up?

I would say so, but take a look at some gameplay videos, that should give you a good idea of the gameplay. I really enjoy it.

Yeah, it actually takes place before the show, so it’s fine to jump in here.

Thank you both.

I’ll check out some gameplay videos after work this evening but, from what I’ve read over my lunch break, my finger is already poised above the Buy button…

Objects in Space beta keys are out! Yeesssssss! Time to get my space submarines going.

So disgustingly excited.

And I’m in. Woohoo!

I can’t wait to dig in deeper than I could justify doing over my morning coffee at the office.
