Will this do?

You do the good work sir!

I try my best sir. Hope it helps!

Of course Brian is a curator on Steam. He tends to not say a whole lot really negative … (he’s a nice guy clearly) but you can get a sense of what he likes by his write-ups there.

I’ve had fun with Rebel Galaxy btw. That game seems well made overall,l though I took a time out. I wish there was a better way to check trades or maybe a bit better way for planets to be more unique (e.g., what does this place do and why does it need robots?). There are some clues but…

Most of the space games I’ve played have fortunately been pretty good, but I’m not against slagging a game if it deserves it. Those have just been in the minority, thankfully.

Was just reading about Galactic Dominion from your list Brian.

I see it is turn-based or real time. Did you try both? If so do they both work equally well? I usually prefer turn-based these days.

Yeah, they both work fine, basically the turn-based mode just pauses it at an interval, so it’s essentially the exact same game.

Cool.

Err how difficult is the combat in this and Helium Rain? I assume you directly control the ship in Helium Rain…as an indicator I found the combat in Rebel Galaxy to be…challenging.

Combat in Helium Rain is even more challenging due to the Newtonian physics.

oh ok thanks

Happy to help!

Did you play the Anabasis DLC for Battlestar Galactica Deadlock? You did, didn’t you?

I actually haven’t yet. From what I’m told it’s fantastic.

Folks at Vendetta are doing their annual ‘free-for-previous-subscribers’ deal through January 1st:

I had fun yesterday mining Lanthanic ore in Odia

I loaded it up and tried it, to see if it felt any different from the last time I played.

Sadly not, still a slow slog to get anywhere, and the journey itself is still super unexciting. It’s like driving up the 5 in space.

I feel ya. I really don’t know why I like it so much. It’s… kind of a now and again you-get-these-moments type thing.

I think I’ll load up Jumpgate and give it a whirl when I’m done installing boot camp on my mac.

So this is pretty great you guys. A fun – if short – campaign with decent writing, fantastic dogfighting and instant action. Definitely worth $12.

Brian if I could ask a question – I was really liking my Rebel galaxy semi-Freelancer feel from trading in a space game and wondered – what is your best pick for a trading open space game?

A sub question: Can we get Freelancer still downloaded? I know it isn’t on steam but…somewhere? legal I mean, of course.

Freelancer isn’t available legally to download, sadly.

As for your other question, to me, right now nothing beats Helium Rain. Best trading space game there is, IMO.

Oh helium rain! Good I am running to the steam sale now! Thx!!
