Far out! I’m running out of space to list all these outer space games with out in their name without getting it all out of sorts.
Outer Wilds - is an open world space exploration game where you’re stuck in a timeloop.
Outer Worlds – is a role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment.
Outward – is an open-world fantasy role-playing game.
Outriders - a new sci-fi game by Square Enix.
Sorry for your loss @BrianRubin. That sucks.
I look forward to the colony-builder-in-space, Outhouse
I’m looking forward to the top down roguelikes Outvoid, Spaceout, Outspace and VoidVoid.
I guess my space game will be titled “OutOut: VoidVoid”.
I now have an urge to create a Grammy-like award system for space games. I shall call it the “Outie”.
Outies are weird and gross. Normal respectable people have innies.
And baseball players have extra innies!
Sorry. I’ll show myself out.
Hello my friends, and welcome back to another week of spacey gaming. I want to thank you all for your patience in letting me grieve after my recent tragedy, but I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things, and that includes allowing the joy that is Space Game Junkie – and you all – back into my life. With that said, I have one game for y’all this week, the recently-released and super fun Hyperspace Delivery Service! As I get back to normal mentally and emotionally, I’ll definitely be able to put out more content, but this is a start.
The podcast returns this week as well (Tuesday, 5:00 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube, Mixer), with the folks from Grey Wolf Interactive joining us to talk about Pax Nova (though this could change, things have been odd lately after all).
Finally this week, the LAN Party returns as well (Thursday, 5:00 PM Pacific, Twitch, YouTube, Mixer) with a return to one of our favorite games, Dead Effect 2. It has a new class, new DLC and a big update of late, so it’ll be fun to return to.
Thanks, as always my friends, for being awesome, and for your understanding, kindness and compassion of late. It’s been very heartwarming, and that’s been very helpful.
I was hoping Matilda would host the podcast, really
That would be a short and very confusing podcast.
Not a game but a space sim/ planetarium/ toy thing.
Try the free version of you are curious. Its very much worth it though.
When did the dev decide to start selling SE??
edit: Well, seeing how’s there’s like four pages of core updates, engine changes, and fixes, I can see where SE is firmly in the realm of payware now. It’s always been the best computer planetarium around.
Yeah they added a lot. Great bit of software really.
Also, they’ve added VR implementation. Can’t wait to try it when I get home.
So I finally got to spend some time with this, and the VR controls seem to need some work. Felt like it was designed by someone that had never used VR. You’d think the two sticks on the controllers would be used for movement, but they simply adjust speed and time. You rotate by “grabbing” the landscape (with one of the left touch buttons) and dragging over to your forward view. You can also physically turn your head to change views as in a normal VR game, but if you want to see something behind you…yeah. Never did figure out how to move forward, so had to fumble for the keyboard to do that. I guess you can remap the controller buttons from outside the program, but I didn’t feel like going through the hassle.
It pops up UI elements (like the star system one, showing all the planets) in three separate places at once all around you, and I kept seeing a loading icon (also repeated 3x) popping in and out. The nebulae look really cool, though.
You click on distant bodies with a beam ending in an aiming reticle from the controllers, and in a dense field of stars, it’s pretty difficult to get it unless you have robot hands. There’s not a tutorial or anything explaining the controls (that I could find), so it was trial and error. BTW, this was in Oculus native mode. Haven’t tried with SteamVR.
I probably won’t spend much time in VR on this, so if those controls get better, that’s nice, but not gonna worry too much otherwise. But even without any VR, it’s an excellent program.
