I mean High Frontier is basically the concept I’m looking for, but a deeper simulation with a longer time span and a more progressive tech tree.

I would play the hell out of that game.

Thats not Helium Rain sadly. Good game but its not that.

I strongly agree with you about FTL. I dont like it in space games. I understand sometimes its a necessity to make a game playable. But many times not. I wish designers would think more creatively around plausible alternatives before using it.

Just as I mention Remnant it gets delayed some more.

Hey everyone,

I have an unhappy update to share this month.

The HUD still isn’t done. We’ve gone through three complete iterations and every single one has had a few glaring issues that only pop up once they’re implemented and we can play with them. At this point, we’re abandoning our attempts at creating a diegetic interface and moving to a traditional RTS style bordered command cards while still maintaining the semi-transparent ethereal feel of the rest of the UI.

We’re still playing with the tracker on the right and the dark black background will be more transparent looking. It will take time to implement in-game but at least it’s progress.

My GPU also died this week:

I have new parts on the way but lost time sucks. I’ve ordered a midrange card to ensure that the game maintains a steady 60 FPS for older, more outdated systems like my own five year old machine.

I apologize for the continued delays and appreciate your support.

Take care.

Although you can’t be too crook at the guy - he only ever asked for a few hundred bucks for this and he has had some bad family tragedies so just going to have to keep waiting.

Yeah, it’s not like there’s a shortage of other great games to play whilst we wait.

It does look great though.

Released on Steam

Tom disliked it when he streamed it this week.

Das seems taken with it though he wishes the graphics were better. In his Let’s Peek he shouts out @BrianRubin. Das will put out a let’s play series sometime soon.

James Allen is back from his hiatus with a review and on balance he says it, “has a number of unique gameplay features and is recommended so far to fans of 4X games.”

And Oliver at eXplorminate has a lengthy review here.

Other than being a little hard on the eyes I don’t see enough that is unique about this game to tempt me even though I play (collect) most space 4x games that will run on my laptop.

Curious if any of you have played and what your impressions are.

Oh wow how lovely! Das is the best.

Friends, an update! I started Space Game Junkie when I was unemployed eight years ago. Two weeks later, I got a job. Today, I lost that job, thankfully. Stay tuned y’all, big and awesome changes will be coming, and no one is more excited about it than I am.

Wow, dude, glad you’re feeling positive about losing/leaving the job. Hope it frees you up for better things.

Oh it totally will. I am so excited about the future.

Hey BTW, given your current avatar, you (and everyone) should check out the Colbert interview with Mr. Goldblum from last night on the Late Show’s channel-- this is the first of two segments:

Is there a gallery of the maps somewhere? I don’t have the game installed and I like pictures of space game maps. (I made a few for a different game, and always am interested in new and fresh ideas.)

Wow so SGJ is going to be your full time job now! That’s awesome! +1 supporter here.

That’s the goal. Gonna start with that and hopefully some freelance work and see how it goes.

Wishing you all the best, buddy! Let me know if you need anything. I will do what I can.

OMG was that you on Patreon?!

Thank you!

I am a big fan of 4X games, and I have had it wishlisted for a while, but at this point I doubt that I will buy it.

In the forums I asked what the potential victory conditions are. Dev replies, diplo and conquest. Fair enough. But then dev says that science victory is boring, just click “next turn button and wait for victory.” Dude. You’re the dev. It doesn’t have to be boring. If it’s done right, it can be a real nailbiter. The other civs figure out you’re going for a science victory and gang up to stop you. Can you fend them off long enough? Or are you going to be destroyed under their combined assault? It just struck me as a very lazy answer. Oh, and there will be additional victory conditions in the already planned DLC. Awesome.

There just isn’t enough there for me to spend 30 dollars on, especially when I can play MOO, MOO2, NUMOO, Galactic civ 2, Galactic civ 3, Stellaris, Endless Space, Endless Space 2, Distant Worlds, etc etc etc

SGJ is one of the few podcasts I listen to on a regular basis so I’m happy to pay to support it.

Thank you so much man. That really gives me hope.
