Hey guys, my co-host and I had a great time flying some X-Wing Alliance multiplayer for our latest podcast, so I figured it’d be fun to try to get a full 8 folks together to have a go at some team battles, races and free for alls. This Friday night, 7/18, at 5 PM Pacific/8 PM eastern we’ll log in via GameRanger to play. You can get links to that, along with the files and instructions needed to run the game on modern hardware, at my site’s wiki. If you’re interested, let me know and I’ll add ya to the list. Thanks! :)

Just a pointer over to Josh’s latest Limit Theory dev blog forum, as these posts are very interesting, and he is asking a coding question that someone may know the answer too?

Okay, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter multiplayer, with a solid connection and the right people, is FUN AS FUCK. Seriously, had no idea it was THAT much fun. I’ve totally short-changed the game all these years. Gotta play more!

How can we trust you about anything now? What if you’ve been overrating FreeSpace 2 all these years?

Motherfucker please, I think Freespace 2 can speak for its own superiority, all one needs to do is play it.

I just dipped my toe into Starpoint Gemini 2 and I gotta say I’m really digging it. Comparing it to a cross between Freelancer and Starfleet Command really is incredibly accurate. At first it resembles Freelancer a lot more and I was getting frustrated because ships wouldn’t just die, and I couldn’t shoot all of my guns at the same time indefinitely, but then when two more enemy ships jumped in I was glad for that, and the similarities to Starfleet Command really came out.

I think the biggest negative (which some might consider a positive?) about the beta is that it only has a sandbox mode right now and not a story mode, which might make it a little more challenging for people who are new to these types of games or haven’t played games like this in a while. I’m sure a story mode would probably do a lot better job of giving a novice player direction and purpose and hold their hand through a few of the less immediately obvious concepts in the game. BUT, all the being said, if you don’t mind flailing around for a couple minutes it all seems pretty easy to get a hang of. Looks great, plays smoothly, and pew pew in space.

I have been playing Starpoint Gemini 2 a bit myself. I think I may put it down. There doesn’t seem to be much to do other than the random missions. The lack of a bigger story and more proper tutorial is a bit of a problem.

They really need to improve their trading interface. As far as I know, I need to go to the star map to compare prices on products.

The way it should work is that if you are in the trade interface of a station and you select an item, either in your cargo or something that is for sale, you should see a list of known buyers and sellers with their prices for the products. Right now, if a station sells solar panels, you then need to go to the galactic map, search for solar panels and then see the prices that way.

I have also made it to level 6 and the skill points are very unexciting. First they are not passive, you need to activate the appropropriate power and then you might get a 5% bonus to something while that power is active. For example, 5% more speed when the piloting power is active or 1% improved weapon reload speed when the attack boost power is active. Its all very snooze-worthy.

Hopefully they address this in balancing and polish. Also upgrades are not very clear (as in, what is actually a better weapon), not to mention the prices very high for seeming “slight” upgrades.

I think Ill put this game down and wait for it to be finished.

I also bought SG2 during this week’s sale and had a great time tonight for about 90 min. despite the lack of a story. It might wear thin quickly until its finished, but for now I’m glad I grabbed it. It shows great promise.

The devs are also very responsive on the official boards.

Forget trade right now. Its not worth the bother. Just do the random missions and bounty hunts (for big money). The rest of the game (including trading) isn’t really there.

For a game that is about 2 months from release, I thought it would be practically finished. Apparently not, or its a lot more than two months away.

I’ve been playing it off and on, and I agree, there is really not much game here, space combat is quirky and those missions are in my opinion worthless, and there is little sense in exploration, apart from some ships that kills me good, there is little gain from it.

This. Either there’s a lot more done that’s not in early access build, or they’re going to add a game to it post- release.

I’m happy to wait until it’s fully baked, but I like this demo.

Sigh, so after not hearing from the M.O.R.E. folks for ages, they sent a massive update today with how the game is coming along…along with news that they’ll be doing another Kickstarter campaign. Aaaaaaaaawesome. This doesn’t fill me with a ton of confidence or excitement.

It’s somewhat uncool, when they should definitively have more to show for the 90k they got?

This is gonna sound vague but I hope you guys can help. I noticed a gameon Steam the other day but forgot the name. It’s a capital ship combat game, top or 3/4 view where you can control a carrier or battleship. It has multiplayer but I would mosly do singleplayer if possible. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? Is it any good?

Stellar Impact?

Hahaha, I knew I could count on you, Brian! That’s it… any opinions on this one?

Stay far away, it’s a piss poor game I wouldn’t even recommend if they paid you to play it.

It’s a moba style game, it’s not bad but there isn’t much too it.

Guys. Guys, we talked to the CEO of LGM today about Starpoint Gemini 2 this morning for our podcast, and I am now more excited than ever about it. Modders can bring in whole new ships and make whole new MAPS that extend the universe even further, and the universe feels so damned alive. I’m just so giddy for this game. Apparently the beta version we have is well behind their internal version in terms of feature-completeness.
