I just want to have fleets in it, but no news about it yet :(

It’s planned to be implemented, maybe not initially, but at a later date. That’s one of a few things you’ll be able to do with boarding parties now. ;)

So Brian, is Starpoint Gemini 2 fun to play now? Some of the earlier posts in this thread suggested there wasn’t a lot to do yet, that there wasn’t much exploration to do, that combat was just okay, etc. Have these things improved over the past couple months?

Stellar Impact was an awesome game, unfortunately let down by never really having enough people playing it. The kind of game that had a very brief moment, and once that moment had passed there wasn’t really anything to get from it.

Shame.

I’ve been having a blast with it. There are random missions in there already if you like those, you can mine asteroids and the new nebulas as well, or you can just fly around and get in trouble, because eventually someone will want to take a potshot at you. If you’re in a friendly sector, you’ll get some local help too. It’s been great.

Is mining fun?

Brian is the podcast posted? Looking forward to listening.

Spock didn’t ask others, but here’s my two cents: its fun, but there’s still no game. Case in point: last night I was simply too tired to play my current game of choice, Divinity: Original Sins. So instead I fired up SG2 and cruised around for about 90 minutes and had a blast doing those small procedurally-generated missions. I don’t feel there is much else there, so I eagerly await the addition of a storyline, level progression, diplomacy, etc. For now, its fun to fly around and shoot things, and I’ll probably get my money’s worth even before those other things are added.

The audio portion isn’t up yet, but the video portion is up on Twitch

It’s like shooting a moving, retaliating enemy except you are shooting a stationary rock instead. ;)

Sorry, dunno how I missed this. Yeah, as Profanicus said, you basically shoot the rocks. Mining gas clouds is a bit more involved though. :)

I don’t get this, why include a utterly boring game mechanic into this game when it has no crafting, and you are just trading boredom for credits to use. The missions are terrible too, a bit of credits and Xp for various work, that’s a bit sad panda.
After playing it some more it gets a solid thumb down for me again, it’s got confused combat, it can’t make up it’s mind wether it’s a big space ship or a regular shooter, you will wrestle camera view and weapons arcs more than the enemy. Ship upgrades are very incremental and very small bonuses makes you feel like progress is slow.

Also note, I’ve had this for a year now, and progress is realllly slow, they have been tweaking stats and fixing bugs so long the actual game is going nowhere. I had hopes, maybe it may still deliver, but so far their first game in this series is way better at …well everything.

I finally picked up SPAZ cheap over at GOG. I can’t believe I missed this one. I place sole blame on Brian.

Unending Galaxy, did that get a mention yet? Looks (and reads) very nice indeed:

Looks cool Zak, thank you!

In other news, Space Rangers HD for $4.99, get it now.

Brian, as resident space guru, what are your thoughts on the Wing Commander games. Specifically if one, never having played any of them, were to choose one to play, which one? Would starting at 1 be best, or would going straight to 3 or 4 (which I often hear heralded as best of the series) be better?

Hmmmmmmm…that’s a tough call. You could likely jump into three without having played one and two. I think you’d miss a lot of nuance one gets from being knowledgeable of the previous games. Personally my favorite is four, but that’s after having played all of them in order. If you’ve never played them and have the time, start with one and play all five in order. If you don’t have all the time in the world, start with three and go from there I think.

Well time is my issue ;) Between 6 month old, 50-60 hour/ week job and school time is rare.

But thanks! My intent is to play one so I can tag it for the classic game club. I’ve heard much about the series, and I also kinda bought them all on GOG over a year ago. Yay pile of shame…

Oohhhh, in that case start with three and, if you feel inclined, read the stories of one and two on wikipedia or some such so you have SOME grasp of the back story.

Is this an updating of SR2 with some new content, or a total overhaul? I own Space Rangers 2 Reboot on Impulse, but I wouldn’t mind having that or a revision on Steam. I’m not even sure I know how to get to my games on Impulse.

EDIT: I just found Brian’s answer in the Bargain Thread:

It’s an HD version of SR2 with the expansion content, updated soundtrack, pirate-specific content and more. It’s worth owning even if you have the others, which I do. ;)

Limit Theory video update!!!

amazing…
