…there is NO sound in space, it’s a vacuum.

You are correct, but the game experience is just less fun if you just shot down a ship (in ANY spacegame) and you don’t hear an explosion through your speakers.
Hell, even if you shoot your laser and there is no phew, phew it’s kinda boring…

So a space game with firefly style music. I can dig it :D

Well there is a challenge i guess. Is it possible to have a 2001: A Space Odyssey experience in a space game? I’d kind of like it i think, or a game where the default is all laws of physics (for sound and motion), and you could then add layers of automation/systems to add sonic feedback etc.

Just turn your speakers off and plug your ears for maximum realism during space combat.

try lunar flight, it might fit your bill. And of course Kerbal Space Program

Okay, I love the aesthetic of the capital ships. It has a bit of a Battlefleet Gothic feel to them, but with less spires on every ship part.

Thanks Travis - its more or less as I suspected, and I’m sure, based on what I’ve seen from you guys previously, that you are absolutely right - looking forward to this!

That is a fantastic idea. It would be nice to have in-cockpit sounds/alerts though.

@Schurem, Lunar Flight looks great (just not possible for me being Steam only it seems?).

Why, are you allergic to steam? There’s pills for that you know.

You can buy Lunar Flight on Desura where it’s DRM-free, although the Steam version is also DRM-free.

Anyone know anything about this Apollo 4X? It appears to be an economics-based tbs, but I can’t find out snything more than that, other than it’s in Early Access and apparently not on Steam.

If I may…

Cool. I’ll have to listen to that when I have more time.

Brian - I’ve been watching your video as well as the developer’s, and I’m very tempted to jump in. I realize he’s calling it an alpha, but it looks pretty complete so far. Would you recommend getting in now or waiting?

Depends on how you feel about early access. While it was fun to play, it felt like it was missing UI and tooltip elements that would’ve been very beneficial, and I’m not sure to the extent that either have been improved since then. I think there’s a manual for it now though, so you might have an easier time of it and can put those things aside. That said, if you feel comfortable enough to dive in without knowing a thing and learn as you go, it’s a lot of fun even in the early stage I played.

I hope that helps!

It does. IN fact I’ve already downloaded and skimmed the manual and looked at the quickstart guide. I’m a sucker for games that bring something truly new to the table, and this looks like it fits the bill.

Oh yeah, it’s DEFINITELY something new in this space, and the fact that it plays well and is fun is a great thing on top of it.
