Just the starting solar system. You’ll be able to jump between multiple.
But there’s only one in the build Brian played -
Yeah, the name of this game is really terribly generic, sorry tbaldtree! :) I mean it sounds like one of those F2P space MMOs that keeps popping up on Steam, and I completely glossed over Brian’s podcast about it until I realised what it was. Torchlight, now there was a unique name which conjured up some neat imagery. (sorry!) However, the game itself looks really excellent, can’t wait; if only I can remember what it’s called when you release it I’ll buy it. ;)
I wish anyone the very best of luck in coming up with a space game name that is not taken :)
Space Vixens of Galumbits III.
What, you don’t want to use that one? Seems perfectly cromulent to me.
I love where this might be heading.
This is probably how Leather Goddesses of Phobos came about.
It’s certainly possible. I thought No Man’s Sky was an excellent title; clever, and unique.

“The Lawless Void” perhaps? Or maybe more cheeky: “Go West, Young Spaceman!” What about “Song of the Stars” tough that would better fit a more quiet, poetic experience than this rootin’tootin’game you’re building.
Naming is a tough one, because you want to convey its a space game without sounding too generic. I always thought “Sins of a Solar Empire” nailed it, (the name, I mean, less so the game). And I remember when the first Star Wars movie came out (yes, I’m old). There was no franchise yet, it was just a cheesy summer movie, and I thought, ‘could they come up with a more generic name?’
Rebel Galaxy is not as generic as some. But at least the word ‘rebel’ in the title conveys a hint of a story, like 'Sins" does. I’m playing an iOS game called Star Traders RPG: wonderful game, forgettable title, and probably suffers for that when you search for it in the app store.
Like the Star Wars film, a game’s title will become memorable if the game itself is.
Anyway, looking forward to the game!
I think there are definitely ‘bad’ names and ‘good’ names, but as long as they are at least okay, I think what you’re saying is true.
They get freighted with the imagery, vibe, and discussion around them and become tied to those things.
Torchlight sounded like a flashlight in the UK. :)

I kept getting it confused with Torchwood myself.
Here is a video of an in development game called Fractured Space. Looks like it has some potential. Coming to Steam early access Thursday.

Rebel Galaxy… more aptly titled “YARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Space”
What’s fun is that we have the only public build. So, like… “WOOT! First!”
There, glad I got that out.
ON MY RADAR NOW, LOOKS GREAT SO FAR!
Definitely on my radar too. I liked the bullet points of course (random galaxy and ‘loot’/equipment in sandbox galaxy, capital ships). I liked the voice used for the fish-faced guy (seemed very Star-Wars-esque).
The capital ship combat did look a bit fast/light, but I understand why that’s a tough balancing act:
I just hope they show some clear inertia. If I’m in a little frigate, then I hope I can line up my broadsides easily enough. But if I’m in one of the bigger ships, I think I’d like to feel semi-helpless when it comes to chasing down frigates and lining up broadsides (that’s what turrets and armor and escorts are for, maybe?)
I don’t know that making them fast is necessary. The one thing I really liked about Star Trek Online was the space battles, and how the ships felt big and cumbersome, but the battles were not remotely dull.
I’m going to get it and wait for the inevitable Battlefleet Gothic mod. :D

Yeah, they told us they were specifically inspired by Assassins Creed: Black Flag and how the ship combat worked. And it shows.
