I honestly don’t know. I actually loaded the game a week ago and tried to play it. It still felt unfinished to me.

Is the result of the star command kickstarter that was basically used to fund porting their game to android as far as i’m aware? Did they actually release something from that, or is this just a new one?

New one based off a second kickstarter I believe.

Warballoon have managed to alienate just about all of their Kickstarter backers through a long series of delays, broken promises, and apparent lack of attention to the PC build of the game for far too long. It certainly did appear that the funding they received from the PC version wasn’t actually being used for a PC version, and they spent far too long getting the iOS and Android versions out there. By the time they’d started showing off progress on the PC version, they’d already lost a lot of support from their community. Then they announced this new project would replace the original, and that went down like a lead balloon, although frankly this looks a lot more interesting than the original vision anyway.

I’ve just tried the alpha and it’s broken, and I can’t see many in the KS forums who actually managed to get it working at all. While I like where they’re going with this, I’d steer well clear until it’s much further down the development line. This could take a while. However, in the spirit of Kickstarter I’m following this with interest to see whether they can pull something out of the fire. If only the game development side of Warballoon was as good as their marketing side, we’d have a great game by now.

So I just picked up Freespace 2 on the GOG sale since I’m having such a blast with Elite. Has anyone here tried the open source mod project, the one that’s supposed to updated the visuals and add new content?

Oh, that old mod? Maybe. I guess.

That’s the only way to play it. It doesn’t add new content, you download that yourself, but yeah, Freespace Open is the shit. I believe you can go to fsoinstaller.com to get it all set up.

Did we mention Into The Stars yet?

And yes it IS about a kickstarter, but i figure this thread needs the bump, and it is space game related (so Brian might like to know, if he did not already :) ).

Brian knows all.

I wish, I actually didn’t know about it until Denny put me onto it in the Kickstarter thread. I’m gonna contact the devs today to try and get more out of 'em. :)

Sounds a lot like The Mandate, but it looks good, now, time to move this 600 k credit load of rares…

Sol Trader?

You only ever read one site, huh?

http://www.spacegamejunkie.com/tag/sol-trader/

Since we’re on the topic, we’ll be having the Sol Trader dev on the podcast in two weeks (1/20) and then the Into the Stars devs the week after that (1/27).

Shit, my wife’s birthday in September ALWAYS sneaks up on me! Thanks for the reminder! :P

Hah, weird, I need coffee. Thanks for catching that!

(cue picard facepalm) Sorry? I do RPS once or twice a day, and your awesome site once a week, or if i have a spacey itch to scratch…i’m a terrible person, i’ll get my jacket.

can i offer ‘Distant Star: Revenant Fleet’:

Or Naut (free Mars walking sim):

(both were on RPS…)

And on my site:

DAMMIT man…

;)

like i said, i’ll get my jacket.

In truth i find it hard to find things on your site, if it’s not right in front of my nose i don’t know where to start looking. Probably my inability to ever use a site search well, but i like ‘buttons’ to sort games (Alphabetical/Date added etc) or pull down list things, rather than search or weird stuff (‘text balls’ or whatever those clumps of text are called!). But i’m very retro in general, so probably not the best website analyst going!

Glad to see you didn’t have Naut :)
