Didn’t X-wing alliance have multiplayer with 16 people in all vs all?
I’m unsure of the numbers, all I know is that XvT has more modes, scenarios and so on. It’s a much more well rounded and complete package for multiplayer, by far.

Ah - its a bit older though, isnt it? Or am I misremembering? I do seem to remember that graphics were better in Alliance, but that its a long time ago.
Could be fun to try again in multiplayer, actually.
Yeah, XvT came out two years before Alliance I believe. According to a friend who’s in the know, Alliance fell victim to a shift in focus at LucasArts toward the prequels, meaning the folks working on Alliance apparently never got to finish it they way they wanted to. This could explain why, even though it’s the more recent game, it’s multiplayer is lacking compared to its predecessor.

So, Brian, on to this Human Exterminator Simulator, which is out today. From watching a couple of videos it looks to me like a series of chess problems, only using spaceships. Nothing wrong with that, depending on the price. My main concern is that I had to shelve the last couple of games I purchased because I assumed they would have mid-mission saves, and they didn’t. I’ll not be making the same mistake again.
Do you recall if saving mid-scenario was implemented? I asked this on the Steam forum last night but haven’t gotten an answer.
[edit]I got an answer on Steam that the game autosaves after every turn, so that should work out.
Yay, yeah, glad you got that answered. We not only got HES on Steam but Out There and Ascent as well. THREE SPACE GAMES IN A DAY OR TWO. Plus the X-Wing games over on GOG.
WOW it’s a great time to be alive.
Speaking of, I’m gonna run a little bout of XvT tomorrow afternoon/evening via GameRanger. Anyone interested?

What’s the word on Void Destroyer?
Fascinating concept but balls hard would describe my few hours with it.
As somebody mentioned above, one of the few things I remember about Alliance is trying to pick off zero-g stormtroopers from the YT-1900 turrets. To say it’s an exercise in frustration is an understatement.
Oh, and then sudden shift from “the family circus” to “how in the world did I pilot the Falcon in the attack in the 2nd Death Star? When did I become Lando?”
And that last mission is a fucker, too.
So I guess I remember more than I thought I did :)

Some of you space gaming fans might like this
Some of you like Outpost, right?
Have you played the full release build?
I’ve not yet, I played it most recently about a month ago.
I am not sure why Homeworld needs to be remastered. The original still looks awesome with the widescreen mod thanks to its lovely, clean, minimalistic graphical style and slick interface.
It really has aged beautifully.
Ooo. That’s pretty and the description sounds excellent:
I love me some capital ship slugging matches.
And some of those screenshots look very Homeworld-esque to me (similar ship geometry and color schemes, but more cel-shaded):
Any plans to play some more and write up a full review Brian?
I’ll be recording some video this weekend. Hopefully I can finally pass the first mission. ;)
I certainly wouldnt mind paying $10-20 for homeworld with updated graphics and working out of the box with modern computers/resolutions.
I would disagree that it has aged well. The space ships are super blocky and low res. I seem to remember the expansion being better graphics wise than the original, but even that is really showing its age.
For a space game that has aged well and still looks and plays good, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
My hope is for an actual sequel resulting from this though. If it is good enough, maybe it will make me forget about the disappointment that is Homeworld 2.
Homeworld has a huge place in my heart, so this is Day One for me.
I remember I made it almost to the Homeworld in the original campaign. The mission in which I took too many losses was the one where you face what’s basically a giant wall of ships. So you have to poke at the wall and bring the ships back towards you. Trying to do that, while also capturing more enemy ships got out of hand at some point, but I just took my losses and moved on, which was a bad idea. I needed a better fleet a couple of missions down the road.
So this time I need to do the Wall of Ships and not take many losses. Maybe even come out ahead by capturing even more enemy ships.
